Schram to Stanford

Connor Schram, a three- time PIAA finalist and one-time state champion from Canon- McMillan High School, has committed to wrestle at Stanford University next year. Schram is the second Big Macs wrestler to commit to a major Division I program this week. Cody Wiercioch, a two time PIAA champion and onetime runnerup, committed to Pitt Monday. Solomon Chishko decided to attend Virginia Tech in late summer.
“Stanford has been in contact with me for a long time,” Schram said. “It’s a great academic school and the right place for me.”
Schram has a grade-point average of 4.4 on a 4.0 scale. He chose Stanford over Harvard, Princeton and Penn.
Ranked third at 126 pounds in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News, Schram missed the early portion of last season with an injury but won 25 consecutive matches after his return. He won section and district titles, but his quest for a second PIAA Class AAA championship came up short in a 3-1 overtime loss to Godwyn Nyama of Brashear in the 120-pound finals.
Schram’s performance helped the Big Macs sweep both PIAA Team Tournament titles last season. The Big Macs defeated Central Dauphin, 28-25, in the Class AAA semifinals, thanks in part to a pin by Schram of Evan Davis at 120. Schram pinned Paul Dietz at 120 in the finals to help Canon-McMillan rout Erie McDowell, 35-20.
