Nelson hired at Charleroi

Dave Nelson, who has been a wrestling coach at Beth-Center for the last 13 years, has taken the head varsity wrestling job at Charleroi High School. Nelson, a Beth-Center graduate, coached the Bulldogs for nine seasons, recently alternating seasons with Chuck Colborn.
Nelson replaced Greg Doerfler, who resigned at the end of last season. The Cougars lost former state champion Cody Wiercioch, who transferred to Canon-McMillan before the start of the school year. But three talented wrestlers return in Nick Gavazzi, Aaron Toth and Josh Kwasny.
Beth-Center has not filled the opening left by Nelson's departure yet.

  3. Congratulations Charleroi on hiring a new wrestling coach but it takes more than three kids to make a team! Hope you have atleast 14. Good luck!

  6. I hear Cody might be ruled ineligable for athletic intent transfer. PIAA is viewing his transfer this week. PIAA state champion Zain Retherford has to sit out his junior year because he transfered to Benton from Line MT. Athletically motivated transfer.

  8. Best of luck to Coach Neslon and the Charleroi Wrestling team. Success starts with a good leader.

Disregard EW's comment; it's well known he often puts his foot in his mouth and hasn't still learned.

  13. Hey wanted to give everyone a heads up. There is a push being put in place to drop the wrestling program at Beth Center. Rumor has it only four students signed up for the wrestling program. Joe, Any truth to this story and if so would the Swarrow boy be able to transfer?

  14. Dear Anonymous there has not been sigh-ups per say, they have physicals! If your going to bring my sons name into the post atleast have the courtesy to use your name. And for the record Beth-Center should be close to having a full line up.

  15. Beth Center has not been able to field a full lineup for years. I give the school board credit for dropping the program. Why should the taxpayers of the district be responsible for funding a program that has been down for a long time. Also, dont you see a problem with not having any idea of what your numbers are with only 3 weeks until the season starts? Finally I do not see a post anywhere where your sons name was used inappropriately or in a negative manner. What do you think? Your last name is Weirchoch?

  16. Congratulations to the Beth Center School Board. You just killed the wrestling program. You let a coach like Dave Nelson go to Charleroi when you could of hired him at the end of last years wrestling season to hire Bill Swarrow. An individual who has never wrestled a day in his life and knows absolutely nothing about the sport. Why didnt you just drop the program months ago?

  17. They have been trying to eliminate the program for years now and hiring this individual was the most diplimatic way to do it. He has no coaching experience and has never wrestled at any level.

  18. Dave didn't want to leave, he was chased out by certain people,Swarrow is only trying to keep the program going, there are boys out there that love to wrestle, once you lose something, you never get it back

  19. I give whom ever gives their time to help keep the program running credit.Bill may not have wrestled but he has been with the program long enough to know something!Zach got where he is with some help from his dad!
People should band together and really stand behind our kids. Put the differences behind us and stick together like real BULLDOGS should!Go BULLDOGS! I'm sure Bill would appreciate any help or even positive input.Give him a chance.Congrads Bill good luck!Remember this is about the kids not the parents!

  20. It is ashame that the majority of the BC board has to act so unprofessionally. If you are not in it for the best of the school and the student athletes, then please remove yourself from the board. This position is not for personal vendettas and politics, but instead should be for what is best students and the district. You had a quality applicant that has wrestled throughout his high school/college career and best of all he is a TEACHER in the high school. The one year he coached the middle school he went from a program that had 5-6 wrestlers and losing every match to 19-20 and winning every match. Where is your justification for hiring a person who never wrestled and knowledge on wrestling is around a 3rd year youth wrestler.

As for Charleroi, good luck!!! He was pushed out of BC for a reason and you to will soon find out.

  21. Your comments are funny. Bill Swarrow and family are a major reason the program cant come together. Great hire Beth Center. Not!

  22. Bashing out at the swarrow family, really has something to do with coaching!Did your mother ever teach you if you don't have anything nice to say walk away!GOD BLESS COACH SWARROW YOU WILL NEED IT WITH ALL YOUR FRIENDLY BULLDOGS!

  23. Dave you will be missed. Thank you Bill for giving the boys of BC your time, loyalty, and backing them up. To me you are a good coach not only for the knowledge of wrestling but you have been cheering on every wrestler not just your own child. My son was the last to wrestle and it was about 11 at night, most had left but Bill was right beside us cheering my son on. You are respected by some parents.. Good Luck to you and the BC Bulldogs!

  24. God bless all the families and people that the Swarrows have slandered and attacked over the years. And god bless the wrestling program at Beth Center with this man as the head coach. Its going to need it.

  25. As a wrestler at Beth Center I've never understood why parents think they are the only people that matter. I hope it matters what us boys think. I'm very happy that Coach Bill stepped up to the plate and helped us out. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be wrestling. I just hope I make him and the Beth Center school district proud. For the parents, let us just wrestle.

  26. Wrestlers: Learn a proper arm bar from Coach Nelson, this man has a lot to teach.

  27. Coach Nelson we made a terrible mistake. Please come back to Beth Center.

  28. Sure now you want him back!Seems BC people are never happy unless they are making the people trying to help miserable! You did a great job but be glad you don't have to put up with what now Bill will be dealing with!Good luck Coach Dave! Zach just ignore these ignorant people. All he was trying to do was defend his father.Your a better person than any of the anonymous cowards!Just go out there and do what you do good win win win By the way did anyone figure out where the missing wrestling money went a few years back! That's the kind of people you are dealing with stay focused and good luck to you and Coach Bill!

  29. Good luck Coach Dave! It's sad that all the BC negativity has followed you on this site. Please don't think that all bulldog wrestling families act like this. It just takes a few to ruin our program, but with the help of Coach Bill hopefully the few will go away.

  30. Dave Nelson is a great parent and great coach. Charleroi got the best of the best. Good Luck Dave. BC will miss u.

  31. Thanks again for all the kind comments. I wish Bill and the Bulldogs the best of luck. No one can please everyone. Thick skin is needed while coaching. I feel fortunate that I at least had a positive influence on some in the area. I am looking forward to seeing you all soon, in what I hope is a great season for everyone!
