Welcome back

I know I've gotten a late start to the wrestling blog but then I normally do. This blog is going to be a little different this year. I am going to post some polls, get more opinions from you and lead you to as many good wrestling stories as I can find around the state.

At first blush, I don't think this season looks promising for this area, but it's still hard to tell. The number of returning state placewinners is low and some teams, probably Trinity and McGuffey, will struggle while the rebuilding process takes place.

As always, I welcome your comments and criticism as long as they are in good taste.

Now it's time to get to work.

It is so unfortunate the way the O/R covers the local athletes. Years ago, we as children saw the historical performances of the Bob Truby's, Ty Moore's and Cary Kolat's(many more throughout WPIAL history) chronicled by the O/R. We wanted to be like those young men in those stories and it led to a continued desire for boy's to compete in a sport that undeniably would transform them into hardworking productive members of society.

I'll check and see whether we can format results and put them on the blog. I have done some in the past but mainly the top tournaments.

As for the O-R's coverage, we are simply reacting to the desires of the readers. Newspaper circulation has fallen with the rise of the internet. This is where many people, including you, come to now for information. It's not the other way around. We are simply adjusting to that.

There are benefits. I can get information about wrestling on the blog any time I want. I don't have to wait for the paper to be published. As for features on wrestlers, we still do a great deal of them in the newspaper. Colin Johnston, Matt Ryan, Grant Lowther, Ethan Headlee, Coleman Scott, etc. How many times have you read about them in the O-R? Plenty.

So, now it's the O-R's job to transform kids into "hardworking, productive members of society"? I thought that was the job of parents.
