They are still young

Watching Brian Scritchfield throw away his first-round match against Jeannette's Ian Thom in the WPIAL Class AA Wrestling Championships was not only surprising but also a reminder that young people still do impetuous things.

Whatever it was that set off Scritchfield, a senior from Jefferson-Morgan,isn't really important. Scritchfield is more talented wrestler but the numerous penalty points and eventual disqualification showed that something else was at work here.

There are two tournaments left in the season in Class AA: the regional in Johnstown and the state event in Hershey. All of the work put into the season by a wrestler can be tossed away in a moment of frustration. Scritchfield didn't handle it well and there was not much head coach Scott Rhodes could do about it while the match was going on.

Tenn-age kids don't always do the right things and make the right decisions. That's what makes them teen-agers. At least, Scritchfield has a second chance in the wrestlebacks. Sometimes, that option isn't available with life mistakes.
