Night at the Fights

A fight broke out in the stands near the end of the Trinity Duals on Saturday and if it were not for the quick action of Trinity's security, it could have easily been worse than it was. When these things happen, everyone involved accuses everyone else of starting it. But this seemed to have ignited when two fans - one from Albert Gallatin and one from Chartiers-Houston - got into a shouting match about something. I was told, but couldn't verify, that this began when someone in the stands used some very foul language.

Albert Gallatin was in the finals against Bethel Park and their fans were acting up during that match, before the fight broke out. One woman, who was sitting matside with a camera, was sent back to the stands after yelling at the referee. Two or three other beligerent fans from AG were screaming from the stands. One was smacking his hand repeatedly on the bench. Another was escorted out a few minutes later. All this occurred before the fight.

It's a good idea to remember this little tidbit: If you are going to be an idiot, make sure you smile because you are probably on camera. Most high school gymnasiums have security cameras for just such reasons. The people involved in this fight might think nothing came of it because they left the gym without being handcuffed. But the security camereas will be reviewed and action could be taken later on.

Besides the legal problems you could face, their is the little issue of how you appear to your friends and family when you lose control. Watching the events unfold from across the gymnasium, I thought, "What a bunch of jackasses." I am sure the wrestlers you were there to cheer for thought the same thing.

It is a great thing that Trinity has security cameras! It is one thing to cheer for your team, it is another to be a jackass and embarrass your school district and children. I was not at the match, but I don't have to be there to know that this type of behavior is inexcusable!

To the person whose comment I deleted: Don't swear on my blog.

To Tony: I think every school gymnasium should have cameras for just such a problem. I have to admit that this hasn't been much of a problem of late, and hopefully it continues that way.

Fans don't realize how foolish they look when they get involved in this type of incident. Watch the Maury Povich Show. That would give you a good idea.
