Wpial needs to skip the sectional tourney and go straight to the WPIAL tournament. Section 1 couldn't even get 5 wrestlers in one of the weights! Greed for those $6 admissions probably wins out
Coaches are the problem. Don't blame the WPIAL.
Some people have lobbied for years to eliminate the AA Sections. Everytime it mentioned, 10-12 coaches get all riled up and fight it.
COACHES are the reason we don't just go directly to the WPIAL AA tourney.
An entire weekend of wrestling to eliminate 2 wrestlers per weight. What a waist of time, some of the weight classes had only 5 wrestlers.
Section 2-AA 130 pounds had only 3 kids...
Sectional tournaments give the kids who arn't the best in the wpial a chance to win something. From a coaches standpoint it allows his wrestlers to end the year possibly on a high note and something to build upon. From the fans standpoint it's a waste of time. For that matter the entire wrestling season is a waste of time to the fan other than the power aide tourny. So the question remains why do we have it then? The answer is The more matches you give these kids the better chance they have to improve. End of story. Deal with it. And no I do not have a son that wrestles. So don't come back with one of those your son must be one of those kids kind of comments.
You must have a son who only wrestles 3 months per year and is way below average. Good for the little one, he took 3rd at sections. His weight only had 3 wrestlers though.

From a caoching standpoint and ex-wrestlers standpoint. Why would you eliminate the sectional tournaments? Yes, often times the weight classes arent full but for those that win the section tournament it is an accomplishment to someday look back upon. I know its not the same as winning a WPIAl or regional title but it is still a title and something that can improve a wrestlers self-esteem.
