Class AA quarterfinals
The surprise of this round came at 170, where Dustin Conti of Jefferson-Morgan was handed his first loss of the season, 2-1, in double overtime by Alex Gular of Port Allegheny. Conti scored just four bout points in the winners' bracket, winning 3-1 over Nick Cortopassi of Bethlehem Catholic in the first round. Conti won his consol round match against Zack Pinkas of Forest Hills and will medal.
The other surprise came at 145, where Tanner Sutton of Chartiers-Houston lost twice and was eliminated from the tournament. Sutton fell 8-3 to Blake Bowman of Tri Valley in the quarters and then was decisioned 4-3 by Phil Marra of Burrell in the consolations.
The darling of the first round in AA, Nick Gavazzi of Charleroi, lost a 3-1 decision in overtime to Seth Lansberry of Line Mountain in the quarterifnals. Lansberry rode gavazzi for the second period and escaped in the third period for a 1-0 lead. Lansberry appeared to have the bout wrapped up but was called for a second stall and gave Gavazzi a point with two seconds to go. Lansberry got an early takedown in the first OT. Gavazzi won his first conol round match and will medal.
Jake Temple of Avella and Garrett Vulcano of Chartiers-Houston dominated their bouts in the quarters. Temple won 7-1 over Jaykup Durlin of Youngsville. Vulcano won 5-1 over Connor Rosensweet of Western Wayne. He gets Andy Geiger of Trinity in tonight's semifinals.
