Mary, Haynes honored by NWCA
Chris Mary was named the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coach of the Year by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Glenn Haynes was honored as Pennsylvania Wrestling Assistant Coach of the Year and Zain Retherford of Benton was named Pennsylvania Wrestler of the Year.
The winners at the state level will now be eligible for regional and national awards. These award winners will be announced this month.
Mary and Haynes led the Big Macs to a sweep of the PIAA team titles this year and were in the corner when four of their wrestlers competed for PIAA individual gold medals. Three of them - Connor Schram, Solomon Chishko and Cody Wiercioch - each won gold medals and Dalton Macri won silver.
The Big Macs won a fourth straight WPIAL Team Tournament title, a record for a Class AAA team.
