Tri-County Tournament thoughts
The first night of this tournament is normally uneventful. No great upsets because many of the top seeds don't wrestle until today. But there were some things that popped up.
1. Canon-McMillan is nursing some injuries and brought only nine wrestlers. Each one advanced and the Big Macs have a good shot at winning a fourth straight team title.
2. Two females - one from Burgettstown and one from Uniontown - are in the 112-pound consolations.
3. Rumor has it that Zach Benzio quit Connellsville's team. The 189-pound senior wasn't at the tournament.
4. The first day of the tournament had some organizational problems. The computer program malfunctioned and results were not available until the end of the night. Also, 27 wrestlers scratched from the tournament.
The former problem, well, what can you do about it? Computers are not reliable, but there was more than one coach who questioned whether the tournament should continue next year, not only because of organization problems but because of how close the event is to the team tournament. I felt bad for the radio broadcasters, who were trying to report scores from bouts on the four mats in the gym.
The high number of scratches is inexcusable. Coaches should know who is and who is not wrestling in the event well before it happens. They should contact the host school ahead of time. I understand some can get sick or injured right before the tournament, but 27? That shouldn't happen.
5. Finally, I was hoping to blog from the finals but the school's firewall would not let me access certain pages. This was one of the them. I will try again tonight. But if you don't see a post, then you will know why.

Team results in and Avella took 5th. Give those boys some credit even though they are 0-8 they gave a great show here!!!!
How about Sam Brownlee of Cannon Mac walking home after he lost to Marty Kisla!
Run terrible...no contingency plans..mat set-up was questionable ...3 across and one in back (what's up with that)...alot of people were blaming Ringold but it was Tri-cada's baby and it bombed....one would think that a group of athletic directors could get something right...clear the gym after semi's and consy's.. why not $5 per session or $8 for an all day pass. They sent me home early .
This tournament has so much potential. Please do not let Ringgold ruin this tournament. From the shady 50/50 to the way they ran through the brackets to the baseball net that blocked the view of the mats for half the stands this tournament was run like poop. Nothing but a bunch of clowns running that tournament.
