PIAA Tournament notes - Day 1
Because I fear our local wrestlers are not going to have a strong tournament, I thought I would catch you up on what's going on with the rest of the tournament. Keep checking here for updates.
The first nugget: The rumor going around as to the reason why Cumberland Valley's Mike Evans is not allowed in the tournament is that he pulled a Najeh Davenport in a teammate's duffle bag. If you don't know what that is, well, um, can't help you there. Google it.
Westmont Hilltop's Tanner Hough lost his first-round bout in the 112-pound weight class in Double-A. Hough has a number of relatives in Washington. Hough won his consolation match and can finish as high as third.
Upset of the first round came at Brian Beattie of Burrell, fifth in the Southwest, decisioned Justin Buchanan of Sharpsville, 5-4. Buchanan lost his first match in 43 bouts.
The fastest pin of the session and day came at heavyweight, where Sean Owen of Clearfield, a defending state champion, pinned Kyle DiGiacobbe of La Salle College in nine seconds,
