Johnstown update - 2

Most of the matches in the first round went as expected but there were some surprises.

Jake Linn, a heavyweight from Charleroi, made it to the semifinals. He is undersized at 230 pounds and will run into a buzzsaw that is Jordan Roussos of Carlynton in the semifinals but he has a good shot to get to Hershey. Charleroi is having a good tournament with Aaron Toth (103), Josh Kwasny (112) and Tommy Thorpe (160) still alive in the wrestlebacks.

Maybe the most unpredictable weight class is 171, where WPIAL champion Cody Catalina was beaten in the first round and looked sluggish in the process. Fort Cherry's Sam Guidi won his first-round bout against Zack Hicks of Mt. Union with a reversal at the buzzer then lost to Tyler Capitosti 11-4. West Greene's Josh Durbin pieced together two wins and draws Capitosti in the semis.

Not only did Michael Innes of Chartiers-Houston default out of the tournament, but he will need eight weeks to recover.

Shady Side Academy's Matt Tadich injure his ribs in a quarterfinals loss to Devin Cook of Bedford but the injury was bad enough to force him to default from the tournament.
