Random thoughts

When Jeff Bricker announced he would not be returning as Trinity's wrestling coach, a few people came to mind to replace him: Chris Day, Andy Migyanko, Angelo Marino and Shawn Amistade. Marino, of course, coached the team until Bricker took over six seasons ago. But he has been active in the program and might be able to be convinced to return. The other three are young, energetic and knowledgeable, something that would be important to anyone filling the position.

The wrestling season is grueling but there are many who want to see it extended. They do this by holding All-Star events. Many have popped up through the WPIAL and I am sure each region has its version. To me, the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic is the event I use to indicate the season is over.

I was told at the Powerade Wrestling Tournament that wrestlers from the state of California are only allowed 40 bouts per season. I think the PIAA should consider some sort of limitation like that. Many wrestlers pile up wins in the newly popular dual tournaments, where as many as five bouts can be wrestled. Zack Kemmerer of Upper Perkiomen is the state leader with 199 but I see that mark being passed in the future. To beat Kemmerer's record, a wrestler would have to WIN 50 bouts in each of his four seasons.

I was told there would be no math. You're right: 50. I'll change it.

That'd be 45 wins per season, but who's counting.
And Butch Marino would be an excellent choice by Trinity - if he's interested in taking on that role again.

best choice for the head job would be andy migyanko. he has been the asst. for 4 years and he was a state champ for the school in 1998. for his asst. he has connections/ friends.

1. shawn amestade
2. joanathan gough
3. dan kosek
4. kevin bednarski
5. brad mockler
any number of these guys for his asst. would turn the program around in no time.

I am sorry to see Coach Bricker leave. He was an excellent coach and a great man. I couldn't imagine a better coaching staff for Trinity than Coach Bricker, the Marino brothers,Andy Migyanko, and Shawn Amistade. Sadly those days have passed but the future of Trinity wrestling will rely on a strong replacement at head coach. My vote goes for Andy, but i would be very excited to see any of afformentioned Trinity graduates, or the lone Cannon Mac Graduate,Butch Marino, receive the head coaching job. In my opinion Scott Rhoades, Jefferson Morgan Coach, former Trinity Junior High Coach, and teacher at Trinity should be in the hunt for the job. When considering the hiring of a new head coach at Trinity I think back to 7 years ago when Trinity went out on a limb and hired a young Jeff bricker. He was a Derry graduate and at the time Mcguffey's coach who had no connection to Trinity. Taking this into consideration i would like to see a former Trinity graduate get the job, but what i want to see most is the hiring of a coach who is knowledgable, cares about the kids and the tradition of the program like Coach Bricker did. Many say Trinity wrestling is rebuilding, or has even fallen off ,to those critics i say “It's always darkest before the dawn” Good Luck to who ever gets the job, and good luck to the Hillers in the future.

Mike Marino for Head Coach. He has always been the behind the scenes guy. It is time for him to step to the front. He is one of the best Men I have ever know. His knowledge is limitless and He is the best choice to tudor some of the young men on the list above. They just aren't ready to take over this program. Marino has 30+ years experience coaching. Chris Day is a good guy, but should only be considered for an assistant position.

Mike Marino was the best coach I ever had and he will be a great head coach for Trinity. I applaud Trinity High School for finally making the right decision. Bricker never seemed to have the zing. He would probably be a good Assistant coach somewhere. Maybe Derry!
