Marino one-and-done?

If you happened to have read Dawn Goodman's piece in today's O-R about the protests planned over the firing of Ed Dalton as Trinity's football coach and athletic director and others, then you might have caught this from Trinity board member Scott Day:

"Day said he anticipates that the winter and spring coaching positions will be opened up . . . "

Day appears to be saying that Hillers' wrestling coach Mike Marino is going to be fired after the season, along with the rest of the winter coaches. Marino was hired to replace Jeff Bricker after Bricker resigned after last season. While Marino is in his first season as head coach, he has been a part of the Trinity wrestling program for years and is a familiar face to the athletes.

If this is the plan, then the board should remember this: There is no quicker way to destroy the stability of an athletic program than to continually change coaches.

The Trinity School board would be acting idiotic to get rid of a man like Mike Marino. There is not a finer individual to coach the wrestling team than Coach Marino. He has been involved with Trinity wrestling since the Joe Shook era and has had his hand in the development of many outstanding wrestlers over that time period.

Take a poll of anyone that has ever wrestled under Mike Marino. I doubt anyone could say anything against his character or wrestling knowledge. Mike Marino is Trinity Wrestling.

The board is full of vindictive individuals that have personal agendas. They are not looking out for the community and they are defiantly not looking out for your children.

I have to agree these school board members should be the one's to go. Firing Marino will set the program back 10 years, this team is tough and they just got started 5 days ago. Does anyone know the names of the people on the school board? Hidden agenda?

The board director previously mentioned in your article repeatedly tried to get rid of jeff bricker. He must have been a great wrestler when he went to school!

Know the board director is upset that Chris Day didn't get the job. The Day's are really becoming a pain in the arse., Kinda like Gerry Chambers always was. After having Dalton for a number of years I'd gladly take Chambers back. If they don't back off Marino they might as well shut down the wrestling program. I hate politicians!

local football teams wins the last 5 seasons:bc - 41, fc 31, trinity 29cal 27, mcguffey 27,ch - 26, washington 25,ringgold 20, char 18, cm 17, peters 13, avella 3, trinity and bc are the only schools in the last 5 years to win two or more playoff games. I feel bad for marino and all the other coaches, with these smart people on the board.

Mike Marino, Andy Migyanko and the rest of the Trinity Wrestling coaches are class acts and spend more time with the boys than the board can begin to understand. Chris Day is the guy from Burgettstown....weird how he started volunteering with the boys from Trinity but has disappeared now that the fireworks have started.

When Scott Day was youth wrestling coordinator they struggled to have 40 wrestlers in the program. The program is now florishing with over 80 wrestlers with a great group of volunteer coaches led by Butch Marino, a three time Big Ten Champion(could'nt ask for a more qualified individual to lead the youth program). If you get your way Mr Day I hope every volunteer in the youth program leaves and all of these fine youth wrestlers find a club or another school to wrestle for until they have to wrestle in Jr. High. Now Mr. Day wants to tear the program apart when is is starting to turn the corner and become competitive again. Why Mr Day? Because you are to such a vindictive person! What have you ever done in wrestling that makes you such an authority to make these decisions? With your decisions Trinity Wrestling will resememble the also once proud Wash High Program.

here is Mr. Days Credentials (or lack-there-of):

1. Quit wrestling as a freshman and never wrestled a single match.

2. Wants Marino, Dalton, Snoke and Bricker fired because his nephew lost in a wrestle-off 7 years ago. That wrestler that beat his nephew was Dan Burkholder (ended up being State Champ so you know the truth). But Mr. Day believes his nephew was screwed. So he has tried every year since to eliminate the coaches involved in the "Screw Job".
Ask him about his meeting every year at the end of the season with Bricker, Dalton, and Snoke. That coward tried to have the entire staff fired for 7 YEARS. Since Dalton and Snoke would not help his cause, he is after them too!

3. Also after the Nepatism in the district. This coming from a man who has multiple relatives in the district and a few who have retired. Such as 3 Science teachers in the middle school, a Home Ec, and a board member who is related.

This nepatism thing is all because Mr. Day's wife was not hired in the district (Again, another Screw Job according to Mr. Day) and he is mad that another Board members daughter was hired. So he is trying to get her fired.

Grow up Mr. Day you childish punk! Your reasonings for going after the coaches are all vindictive. You are a COWARD!!

I just wish the Day's understood how much everyone wants them to leave the scene. They are like a bad case of hemorrhoids. I think somewhere along the lines past A.D. Gerry Chambers is related to those Days. I could be wrong, but that would explain a lot. Chambers had nothing, but a bunch of losing seasons in between two of the most dominating time periods in Trinity Wrestling History - by JOE SHOOK. The wrestlers never gave Chambers the respect he so desperately needed and he has punished Trinity Wrestling ever since. Didn't Gerry Chambers sell us the land that is bubbling at the core under Trinity South costing the district hundreds of thousands if not millions in the long run. This board and the athletic program has been politically corrupt for decades. You got to get rid of the bad old boys network and start with a clean slate of intelligent individuals with the kids best interest in mind. Not their(the board's) own interest.

Mr, Days wife WAS offered a job by the previous board, however it wasn't the certain job she wanted. She was a substitute and is disliked by everyone she comes in contact with. You have no one to thank but your wife for that Mr. Day. Get a singlet and grow a set and act like a responsible adult or quit the board like you did wrestling.

Bonnell has sticky fingers?!!? You speak as if he has stolen money. I HOPE he didn't steal money from the district or from any youth groups back in the day. It would be a shame if someone had information like that! If that is the case, he should be banned from the district!!

Maybe a little digging needs to be done. Grab your shovels boys and girls! We should start checking the background of some of these board members! Maybe we should contact those in charge of the wrestling boosters about the late 80's!!

I heard a rumor today that the Board President was spreading lies, telling other board members that district employees and coaches were the Head Speakers at the rally. That is absolutely not true, but even if it was, they have every right to stand up to the board.

What is the board going to do? Bully the employees? Trinity does have a NO BULLYING policy!

Ya know, we had a way of dealing with bullies back in my day. Stand up to them and they tend to cower back into their little holes! It's hard to be a tough guy when you are nose to nose!

Nice to see Mr. Chambers and Mr. Knapp are against the changes being made. At least we have two board members that refuse to join this revolt. From a member of this community and a tax payer, Thank You!

Also heard that a couple board members have asperations of political advancement later down the road. You definately won't if you band with this group. You have a chance to right a wrong. This area will not forget when you go for election, so you should listen to the constituents of this community. They will be the ones voting for you in the future!!

If you want to voice your opinion to these people, go to the Franklin Mall in the morning and introduce yourself to Mr. Bodnovich and Kenny Bonnell. They sit in the food court and discuss their next "genius" moves with a group of older gentlemen who think they are sports gods as well.

I had the great pleasure of listening to them discuss the sports programs the other day as I sat with my son enjoying a coffee, waiting for the stores to open. It was absolutely amazing to hear some of their comments. These 2 know nothing about sports or the coaches in the district.

It was like listening to Villiage Idiots! I was ashamed and embarrassed for my son and I got up and left before we even finished eating. My son was upset and I was completely angered.

You need to remember to shut your mouths in public. It is the food court, not the supreme court! You should not be discussing that type of information or bashing people of the Trinity School District in Public! Absolutely unprofessional and inappropriate!

It is a shame that these 2 simple minded people are in charge of the district. ABSOLUTELY EMBARRASSING!!

They were not only bashing Dalton, but several other coaches including football, wrestling, and the administration.

And not only Trinity but Wash Hi and Canon Mac as well. These conversations need to be kept behind closed doors, especially when my son has to overhear their rediculous conversations and I have to explain to him why people act this way.

The only thing I regret is not addressing and confronting these babbling fools, but not in front of my child. But I will soon enough!

These old men don't know the difference between a football and their own.....

Your little group is absolutely classless and the things you were saying were absolutely made up lies. I'm willing to bet the majority of them have never had a conversation with Coach Dalton or the others they were bashing

Are school board decisions final? Can't a judge or higher court over rule? They must be answerable to someone! My sons have been coached by Dalton and the Marino brothers, they are truly dedicated coaches. So board members are talking at the mall? Funny, the afternoon of the board meeting one of the newly elected female members bragged "I'm really going to stir up some sh-- tonight! They are too full of themselves and need to be put in check. Everybody answers to somebody. Scott Day took over Trinity South youth football, his wife took over the cheerleaders. That was just a stepping stone to high school football. He needs stopped now. Maybe we'll just move.
