Canon Mac ranked 2nd? That is funny, these guys are good but they are weak in to many weights. 112 is one, schram is a very good 103 pounder but when he is bumped to 112 he is average. other weak weights, 125, 130,140, 152,160,171,189. to many holes. They do however have a very good tourny team, they should contend for the state title for individuals. Just as Hempfield did last year, 3 in the state finals.

CM's weakness is not the team or the kids. It's the coaches.

I agree with the above comment about the coaches. They haven't shown me much coaching as of recently. They are not yelling to the kids during the matches. They accept it when some of the more talented kids do the "let him up and take him down" routine instead of working for a pin. This is going to hurt them alot when they get up against a really good team. You can't yell at a mediocre kid for giving up a major and an additional team point, when your good kids are only majoring when they could be pinning and making up those points.

Also, I don't know what kind of workout they are giving the kids, but when a match went the distance last night, the CM kid looked really tired.

Wrestling is an individual sport. In order to get better, you need the mat time. Pinning a kid in 30 seconds might get an extra dual meet point, but ultimately, who cares about the dual meets? Its about states, period. Besides, nobody can beat Connellsville this year. 8-0 at the Battlefield Duals(VA) is pretty impressive.

Merkel, I would have to respectfully disagree. You get better by good quality practicing and drilling. During a dual meet or an individual tournament is not the time to be trying to improve yourself. Hard work in the mat room shows on the mat.

I believe wrestling to be a 1 on 1 sport also, but I don't think it is just all about states. There is a sense of pride and school spirit in a good well balanced team. You even acknowledge this with your comment about C-ville. I think it would be selfish of a great wrestler to not care about the team and only worry about his own aspirations of winning states. I honestly don’t think that there are very many if any wrestlers out there that only worry about how they do and not how their team does. Sure, everyone wants to win states, but they also want to help their team do well.

Thank you Joe for deleting the one posting. There is no need for name calling on here.

OK Tony, our opinions vary on the pin/TF topic, but I think your comments on the coaching are unwarrented. Chris is a very knowledgable, hard-nosed coach. I am sure he is doing all he can to prepare those wrestlers. There isn't a need to yell at wrestlers during a match because they can't really hear you anyway. If a wresler is prepared, he will know what to do. If he stops coaching betwen periods, then you have a point.

I agree that Chris is a very knowledgeable, hard-nosed coach. I wrestled under him and think he is also a great person. It is because of some of his more recent years that I start to question the overall coaching at CM assistants and head.
The good quality wrestlers that Canon Mac has right now are a product of Quest and Slack coaching the middle school. Just as in the late 80s and 90s when Newman was getting hand fed kids from Coach Smith in the Middle School. The issue seems to be once the kids reach the high school level, then they hardly ever improve anymore.
My belief is that this all goes back to the mat room and the quality of practices they are getting.
I do believe that the kids can sometimes hear the coach yelling to them from the edge of the mat.

Tony,

Your a moron. Kids don't show the improvement in highschool like they do in junior high and midgets because they are older and most of the kids are now at the same level physically as well as skill level. Phil Mary is a damn good coach and you better be glad to have him. And yes Quest does help the feeder system just as does all of the other midget coaches in your area. It's not the coach that breeds the talent. It's the pool of talent that surrounds you in that area. CM is a very rich area for wrestling. Quit hating and enjoy what you have.

Ok. Anonymous. I could lower myself to insults like you, but instead I will just respect your opinion and express mine. I have to disagree with your statement that kids do not show as much improvement in High School as they do in the Junior High. There have been many kids over the years that have improved drastically at the High School level. My, belief is that the practices, work out partners, and coaching are the reasons why. Most really excellent kids help improve the kids around them by being good work out partners.
Again, you are trying to make me single out the head coach, but I am talking about the entire coaching staff. The coaching needs to really be done in the mat room. Excellent practices produce good wrestlers. I understand the sacrifice the coaches are making for these kids, and that is one of the reasons why they have my respect. I have simply state in the above statements that as of recent, I am not impressed. These kids are also making a sacrifice, and deserve to be coach to the best of a coach’s ability. Oh yeah, I do not ever remember Phil being the head coach at CM!
You comment about, “it is not the coach that breeds talent” makes no sense at all. Great coaching producer great wrestlers. If it were not for the coaches, a wrestler would simple be a person with a lot of potential. I don’t even know how to comment about the talent that surrounds the area. That also makes no sense to me at all. I mean in my eyes, every area has the opportunity to produce great wrestlers.
Again, I appreciate you comments and respect your opinion. I am simply stating mine.

Anonymous,
I know this, I was referencing the comment above mine where the guy was trying to call me an "Idiot", but then saying CM was lucky to have Phil Mary as our coach.

As for my comments about the CM Coaching this year, I have to say that it looks like they have stepped it up a notch with the kids. The kids look to be in better shape now, and they are doing a good job of getting the team involve with supporting each other. They definately look like a pretty solid team. Fun to watch.
