Buzz Walters to be honored
John “Buzz” Walters, a hall of fame wrestling coach from West Greene High School, is going to be honored at Wednesday’s dual meet against Bentworth in Rogersville.
The match begins at 7 p.m.
Walters compiled a 300-143-4 record as Pioneers’ head coach. He took over as coach in the second year of the program’s existence and stayed for 29 years. He also spent two seasons at Beth-Center and was an assistant and head coach at Clay-Battelle High School in Blacksville, W.Va.
A graduate of Mapletown High School, Walters had 28 winning seasons at West Greene and was named WPIAL Class AA Coach of the Year in 1974. He was inducted in the Southwestern Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1996.
