WPIAL prognostication

Remember the excitement and unexpected success of Canon-McMillan's wrestling team in last year's WPIAL Team Tournament?

The Big Macs won a thrilling match against Penn-Trafford, 28-27, in the semifinals when Zach Thomas got an unexpected pin. Then, a sudden snow storm forced the postponement of the finals into the following week, allowing Michael Hull to heal enough to wrestle. He won the final bout of the match against Kiski to sew up the title, 32-27. Had the match not been postponed, Hull would not have wrestled (shoulder) and the Big Macs probably lose in the finals.

This year is going to be different. No team is going to beat the Big Macs, if they are healthy, because there is too much talent and depth. Canon-McMillan should repeat as WPIAL champions and pose a major threat at the PIAA Team Tournament.

In Class AA, no team is going to stop Burrell. It's amazing how much talent that program has and most of it is home-grown from what I've been told. Chartiers-Houston is strong but not as strong as Burrell.

I know these are predictable picks, but these are the two best teams and both should win without much trouble.

One side note: The top three teams in Class AAA and top two in Class AA earn a spot in the PIAA tournament. The WPIAL has it wrong on its wrestling cover page.

The interesting story about this team championship is the depth of the teams in our area. Can Jefferson Morgan upset Char Houston? Now that Char Houston lost 2 starters due to injury. Who will be top 4 in AAA? The field is wide open from #2-#12. CM will win but it's up for grabs after that. Can't Wait.

Joe, its funny that you say home grown talent. Should Canon-Mac be deserving of the title that they are about to win? They did have to go and recruit wrestlers to win it. Maybe they should think of changing their name to Canon-Mac Catholic.

I've been saying all along that JM was underated. But upset CH? I don't think so! Look what they did to B-town missing 3 starters.

Burrell matches up well with Chartiers-Houston. Jefferson-Morgan won't come within 15 points.

JM can't beat Burrell but they could beat CH. JM should win 8 weights.

I guess JM didn't match up so well with Kittanning, eh?

Bentworth matches up well against Chartiers Houston. I don't think they'll wrestle however. I guess we'll see what Kittanning can do against them. Burrell will win another championship. And, yes I know that JM beat Bentworth. That was a fluke. JM will be the team to reckon with next year. Speaking of the teams from Greene County. Where do the wrestlers go for training to be able to compete on this level year in and year out. I know the kids in Washington County go to quest but, I never here of any clubs in Greene County. Just Curious.

Charleroi will co-op with Bentworth next year due to a lack of wrestlers to make a full team.

Everyone seems to match up well against C. H. Kittanning beat J. M. C. H. rolled over Kittanning. Can we give C. H. any credit yet?

Burrell certainly matched up well against C-H. The CHHS squad will be the team to reckon with next year. Great experience for these kids this year, going to Hershey next week for the PIAA tournamnet.

Burrell matches up pretty well with just about any team in Pa. AA or AAA. I agree with Joe, I would by a ticket for Burrell C. M. matchup.
