Carr, Wiercioch, Tarley to semifinals
Three area wrestlers, including two defending state champions, advanced to the semifinals of the PIAA Class AA Wrestling Championships in Hershey Friday.
Nick Carr of South Fayette, who captured the 145-pound title last season, decisioned Dylan Killian of Annville-Cleona 11-1 in the 152-pound quarterfinals Friday. He draws David Osterberg (12, 39-3) of Northwestern in the semifinals.
Wiercioch, who won 152 last season, decisioned Casey Fuller of Western Wayne, 6-2, in the 160-pound senifinals. He gets Elliot Riddick (11, 40-6) of Bethlehem Catholic in the semis.
Tarley's trip to the Final Four came after he routed Blake Heim of Renolds, 9-3. Tarley, who was third at heavyweight last season, wrestles Wes Tillett (12, 33-5) of Shamokin in the semis tonight.
