Wiercioch transfers to C-M

Cody Wiercioch, who won a state title for Charleroi as a freshman and finished second as a sophomore, has transferred to Canon-McMillan High School and will compete for the Big Macs this season. According to numerous sources, the Wiercioch family purchased a home in Cecil.

Hypothetically speaking, isn't transferring for athletic intent against against both WPIAL rules and PIAA rules?

Some people say that the WPIAL Board of Control rules on all transfer cases.

I am certain that CW and his family have strong family or employment ties to the Canonsburg area, so approval should be a breeze. I am certain that athletic intent played no part in this transfer.

Best of luck with your academic endeavors at Canon-Mac.

Yea, I hear all the WPIAL schools were battling it out for Weicioch to take their "academic" programs to the next level. He'll probably even pass on wrestling completely to attend the lead the evening physics' club tutoring sessions. WPIAL won't review the transfer or dispute it because the don't have the inegrity to open their eyes. CanonMac Catlolic is recruiting quite the melting pot of wrestlers. Miami Heat, Yankees, and CMC trying to buy a title.

CamelToe is just a hater. You're just envious that all the talented wrestlers want to come to CM. I don't see anything wrong with recruiting wresters and I don't see the need for any academic intent or employment ties. The kid is a talented wrestler not a scholar. We have our eye on filling all our weight classes with state champs.

You all do understand that families move into the canonsburg district all the time. Ceci and Stabane's development are booming and the addition of Consol Energy and the Casino has brought hundreds of new kids to the district. This makes headlines because he's a state champ, and this is the sports section. It's not as if the only 3 kids to transfer schools the last few years were wrestlers.

So, we all agree that this move was motivated by a desire to "do what is best for your son or daughter" in terms of his wrestling career.

However, isn't transferring for athletic intent against against both WPIAL rules and PIAA rules?

Besides, he attained a state title and a state runner-up while at Charleroi, so, things could not have been that bad.

Well, I, for one, am glad that my dad didn't uproot our family for the sake of my brother's wrestling career.

Is any member of the family employed by Consol Energy or the Meadows Casino?

EW surfaces

Friday, August 19, 2011 5:18:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

For the record CW parents championed the effort behind closed doors during the season last year to uproot the team to co-op with another school then tried to convince everyone that it was best for the school to completely drop the wrestling program (refer to EW post). Charleroi coach retired last year, moving on after 16 seasons. The adminstration interviewed and is hiring a capable coach who has the desire to lead the wrestling program in a positive direction. They have not had any intention to drop the program, (must have been part of EW's "brainchild"). The program has parental support, loyal fans, and a good core of talent with a lot to look forward to this season: two returning state qualifiers and a third potential qualifier; returning experienced wrestlers; experienced wrestlers coming up from middle school; and you may even see a few new faces. A new workout facility is in the works.. They won't be a state condenders but they are heading in right direction with a group of local boys(not hired guns)who have lot of heart and all local boys with a lot of pride and a bright future for the program. Charleoi fans might even be eating a few Hershey bars this year.

The actual article on the OR interviewing Mary and Montecalvo is too classic - OMG really this read is just too funning. Luv the - "Wow, I had no idea" acting job Montecalvo and Mary are performing. LOL Oh, it is too much, I am getting gut cramps. Ha! Ha! OMG. Sargent Shultz from Hogan's Heroes could not have done it better. "I KNOW NOTHING!" They are Oscar bound ... A star for both of them in Hollywood. So let’s recap the first day from the article: On orientation - Guidance Counselor takes student immediately to the AD. Mary is called by the AD. I wonder how many other students were rounded up to meet with the AD – Uh lets see hum – That would probably be nobody. I am sure the head of the math and English departments immediately were introduced too and then all teachers of the respective departments were notified of the arrival. You have to remember everybody - there was no intent to move there for a sport – Blah, Ha, Ha, Ha … Oh, my gut hurts … Let me practice my lines … “Wow, I had no idea” … How was that everybody? Nah, I didn’t think it was good either. I guess I am just not coaching material at CM.

You people are crazy. I really dont think anyone from CM has to recruit kids. When A program has the tradition that CM has had over the last seventy years, parents will be drawn to it. Waynesburg, Connellsvile, Trinity, and Mcguffy when they were on top had there share of kids move to the district also. Central Daulphin has a kid or two tranfer in every couple of years including Courts and Dippery. I doubt there coaches are going into their parents house and recruiting them. The parents who spend years with their kids at practices and tournys want the best for there kids. Right now CM is on top, so parents will move there. The run by CM will end soon enough and then some other team will have there time in the spot light. So for now the area should just enjoy having one of the best teams in the state.

What ever happened to high school sports being about community kids playing together with their friends they went to school with their whole lives? The idea is for our school's kids to compete against your school's kids. If our school happens to be weaker than yours in a sport, too bad, we have to try harder to make our program better by making our kids better, not going out and getting new kids! That is for the colleges and pros.
I can tell you that CM has a nice group of kids who have wrestled together since 1st grade and they could compete and do well. When new kids come in, one of that group heads to the bench, the sense of community is lost a little bit and any team accomplishment is diminished.

Noone is entitled to anything. You have to earn your way in this world. If you work as hard as you can you will succeed and if you fail then its a good life lesson. Just keep being persistant and it will work out in the end. The kid who doesnt make Canon-macs team because of CW can always work harder. But just because that kids been there his whole life doesnt mean they deserve anything. You get out of it what you put into it.

You CM fans might want to help out in the concessions this year too. Local people who spent years and years in the CCNS program and JR. Setting up mats, manning tables, breaking down mats, etcn etc. are sick of the recruitment too. Short term - great gains - enjoy this season. They will be unbeatable without question and in fact, one of the greatest teams ever from the area. Maybe next year too. Long term, it is not good for the whole program. people who have children in JR and CCNS see what is going on at the High School level and it is a huge topic of discussion. Many people are moving on from the wrestling program trying different sports. Most don't come back. I am sure CM High School booster support is probably about four families of people. Why do you think that is? These moves just suck the wind out of a booster support system even down to the elementary school level. Who really wants to help out when this recruitment happens year after year. It does happen, I even remember sitting in the stairwells of CM JR high listening to CCNS Quest dads about who is going to transfer to CM high fiving themselves. I know a few of them must not like it too well now. Quest being local has given CM success and it has also hurt many wrestling programs like CM for the long term. My kid and I have moved on from the program. I just didn't like what is going on there at the high school level looking at the long term commitment. My kid liked wrestling he didn't love wrestling. To be honest, he probably was never going to be a state champ though he was good - won about 80% of matches. It is these athletes that the sport will miss that keep programs at a full team. I still love wrestling, still go to some matches but I can see we continue to have made the right choice on our move. I still like reading these blogs. That is a lot of Quest recruits on one team. Good luck to all!

to the above , very well put.my son , this is years ago also wrestled for CNNS.he won 80 percent of his matches too. He liked the sport but didn't love it enough to sacrifice what was needed. I let it be his choice to go on or try another sport. There were also a lot of fine kids a head of him talent wise as he got older. It's just like any other sport if your not committed 100 percent , well it's not for you. You made your choice along with your son ,I respect that but life goes on . It happened back then and it's going to happen everywhere there's success . Some call it recruiting, I call it having a good program. You don't see anyone breaking down the wrestling room doors at Brasher H.S do you?

There is noone recruiting for Canon-mac. The program is just very good right now and people want to be apart of it. A few kids transferring in wont be the demise of CM wrestling. Sure this level of dominance wont last forever because everything goes in cycles. But CM has been a great program for a long time and will always be. The booster program is Strong, probably the strongest in the WPIAL and will continue that way.

It's easy to stay on top when you get the best wrestlers in the country at weight classes you would be weak at. who next year would wrestle 106 that is FROM CMC? (Cannon Mac Catholic) Who would wrestle 145? 170? You can't use Macri, Chishko or weirchioch? What home grown talent can you produce at those weights? From years past like Angle,Mockler,ect... Has Cannon Mac ever had a state champ the wrestled in their youth program?

TO the know it all above. get your facts straight before you run at the mouth;please. Angel moved into the district in the 5 grade, Mockler moved into the district in the 5 grade. So what your'e telling me is if I move my family when my kid is in ,2,3,4,5 grade and he becomes a star at that school you would say I did it for Athletic intent. Or worse the high School coach recruits him in the 4 ,5 6 grade. How do you know what a kid will be like in 5 years he may not even want to participate. Get a life and stay out of the Weicicoh's business. AS far as talent coming out of C.M were have you been under a rock.

I'll bet if someone checked the phone records they'd find a lot of calls between EW and Coach Mary over the last year+. What could they possibly have been talking about? This is a textbook violation of the rules. The precise reason that the transfer rules where enacted. Prediction: the move gets contested, both WPIAL and PIAA rule that the move was at least partially for athletic purposes, the kid has to sit out his jr year. What a shame.

Thanks for the input, but when you type in anger you tend to give yourself away. Why criticize "Anon" postings while using them yourself? Watching the kids wrestle and supporting them: win, lose, or draw is always memorable, especially to a parent has wrestled and understands what it takes to do what they do. You are correct though, purchasing tickets for Hershey is advisable; side doors will be locked so you can't sneak in.

Being that transfers aren't being contested by WPIAL or PIAA; I may transfer into the district as well to don the Big Mac mascot outfit. Who needs local kid taking up a perfectly good mascot outfit.

There's EW again - it's "bad manners, not bad manors";
chance is already erolled??? who is chance, another transfer?

the cm mascot are parents whose kids arent good enough to crack the lineup. it would be a honor to be the mascot but you have to live in the district.

No Chance EW - Chance lives on a farm. I doubt the farm is moving to CM. Keep trying to "wag the dog" and divert the attention away from the move. It will be contested I am sure. The spot light will continue to be on you.

I heard a state champ from ohio is transferring to C.M. and their bringing his cousin that was a junior high State champ in New Jersey . My nephew called me up and wants to live with me now that his parents split. He's in 8th grade and was runner up iN Wva last year. I live in the C.m school district and I'm going to welcome him with open arms to live with me the next 4years. I can't wait to see him on the mat next year. See you at the matches folks!!!

Well, well, well...We are witnessing the demise of the Charleroi wrestling program, and the blame lies solely at the feet of the Charleroi administration, the Charleroi school district, and the Charleroi athletic department. Charleroi has had a long history of talented wrestlers, and, just this past year, sent four wrestlers to the state qualifier, but you wouldn't know it from the gymnasium. One embarrassingly small, hastily-made, vinyl banner commemorating one of the single most difficult achievements in all of sport, a PA State Wrestling Championship, as a freshman no less. No fanfare, no new uniforms, and little to no coverage in the local newspaper for that talented core of wrestlers who competed for Charleroi this past season. Worse, truent support this season at Hershey from administration, from teachers, and from the athletic director for the wrestlers at the finals. Only, a dusty, dilapidated trophy case symbolizing an apathy to past and current wrestling champions rather than paying tribute to their crowning achievements. All the while, millions of dollars are spent on a new playing surface for a less-than-mediocre football team who has not achieved a state title since the Eisenhower administration. Also, a deluge of weekly sports headlines for a basketball team who has NEVER won a state title according to my research. It is August and Charleroi, again, has four wrestlers training as we argue, poised to qualify for the state finals in one of the toughest tournaments in all of sport, and, sadly, the administration has not even named a coach or affirmed support for a wrestling team. In conclusion, I do not endorse a decision to displace a family for athletic glory, but, I can understand a desire to want to abandon the district-wide apathy that submerged these student-athletes over last few years. "We have met the enemy and he us".

From what I've read Charleroi has some outstanding talent on their their team; four went to Hershey 2009-10 and three last year. You may need to go to Dick's for the dummies, I believe the remaining are all high honor students.

Here's the real dummies. All you jealous people out there don't have a life. My god quit trying to live this 16 year old boy's life. How pathetic ,grown men on here making complete fools of there self over a 16 year old boy!. Worry about your own son or daughter maybe they need some attention too. This boy is in H.S for god sake and you are the grown ups???. The viscous attacks against this boy and his family are atrocious and un called for . It's a wrestling match for $%# SAKE!! . People are out of work losing their jobs , getting killed in war . You people are obsessed with a H.S 16 year old kid.Get a life of your own and get the heck out of his. When it comes down to it it's none of your business .

It was put to sleep until stumbling across a pretty discouraging letter written by EW apparently trying to undermine the hiring of a potential coach. After moving on to a better wrestling program, why bother trying impede a school simply trying to replace a retired coach. Besides, a seasoned coach should be able to make an unbiased decision. Was it worth it? There are still talented young wrestlers training and anticipating a new season with a capable coach to lead them and begin to build stronger program; pretty like any other high school wrestler.
