Preseason Team Rankings

Class AAA
1. Canon-McMillan
If Cody Wiercioch is eligible and the Big Macs stay healthy, they should win both team titles.
2. Franklin Regional
Losing Nico Megaludis hurts, but FR would still be No. 2 with him.
3. North Allegheny
Everyone returns from a 15-3 team, including state qualifiers Dom Forys and Alex DeCiantis.
4. Pittsburgh Central Catholic
Jason Luster is a beast and Tyler Zymroz might be back.
5. Latrobe
Three returning state placewinners bolster this group.
6. Butler
Cole Baxter and two other strong middleweights graduated.
7. Connellsville
Ethan Kenney and Tanner Wiltrout return.
8. Peters Township
Five seniors, including Zan Kail, graduated.
9. Kiski
Cavaliers lost starters from 152-215, except for Matt McCutcheon.
10. Hampton
All but one wrestler back from 19-4 team.
Class AA
1. Jefferson-Morgan
Quincy Hathaway graduated but this team is loaded.
2. Chartiers-Houston
The Bucs lost 136 bout wins to graduation from last year. Tanner Sutton and Garrett Vulcano are studs.
3. Kittanning
State champion Jason Nolf leads a strong group of lighter weights.
4. Bentworth
Dylan Demain and Gus Mizia graduated, but Bearcats strong from 152-down.
5. South Side Beaver
Shane Gentry, Connor Payne return. Dave Demor, fifth in the state, graduated.
6. Burgettstown
Blue Devils lost a lot to graduation but Terry Havelka always coaxes wins from his wrestlers.
7. Fort Cherry
A strong finishing punch with Greg Kumer and Corey Garry.
8. West Greene
Seven returning starters will help.
9. South Fayette
New coach, new start, but no Nick Carr.
10. Burrell
Devastated by graduation and reported Zach Kelly transfer to Kiski Prep.

As a footnote, CM's top rank is NOT contingent on the new transfer. We're stacked and as far as I'm concerned, thanks, but no thanks for the help. We don't need the black eye.

Your right.. #1 with or without Cody... but Chisko and Macri help out that ranking... other than that Franklin Regional a bit high and Latrobe and Kiski a bit low in my opinion but look pretty good.... IS IT DEC.9th YET???

If the transfer is approved we will continually have to defend our status and answer questions; without the transfer we have more credibility as state champs.

Mr Toscano, what ever happened to investigative reporting? Peters Township has 7 returning senior starters. Brannen, Wilkes, and Yanniello. WPIAL qualifiers include Buckiso, Palamides, and Kail. State qualifier Evanovich. Junior WPIAL qualifier Ivanschenko. Sophomore state qualifier Buckiso, and a solid freshman class coming off an undefeated Junior High season. Your articles make great bulletin board fodder.

AJ

Each team got a sentence not a paragraph. I will get a little more detailed when I do my team-by-team profile. If your team is ranked in my top 10, then they must be good. Don't know how that makes for bulletin board material.

Preseason rankings and peoples interest in them is just a zeal for the season to begin. I for one am extremely excited as always for it all to begin. I look for my Canon McMillan to win both team titles this year but also hope that the WPIAL does great at the individual state level as always! There are a lot of very talented wrestlers in the area and I hope they all stay healthy and do their best. Like the old sayings go, keep your grades up, your weight down and git er done boyzzzzzzzz!

Everyone is returning from North Allegheny? They actually lost 5 starters from last year's team.

Hampton will be the sleeper team here, they will finish top 4 when the dust settles. U.S.C will also be in the top 10 after a few weeks, they only lost 3 starters from a good team.

My son does not wrestle for CM, but still have the utmost respect for the program. They deserve the honor of the #1 ranked team in the WPIAL and maybe even PIAA with or without Weirchok. As to an earlier response about Franklin Regional being ranked too high. Maybe 3rd instead of 2nd. Wait to you see their starting freshman class. Mike Kemerer 106 lb took 1st at the Super 32. PCC #2, Freshman Vincenzo Joseph @ 106 stud, Freshman Ian Moritz @ 113 stud, Sophmore Kyle Conniker same weight as Luster, they will split later in the season, stud. these are in addition to the great team they already have. They are a sure 2nd in WPIAL and maybe even the state.

SOUTH FAYETTE A BIT LOW I THINK. I THINK THEY MAKE THE TOP 6. BTOWN LOST EVERYONE, RETURNING LIKE 7 KIDS WITH ONLY 2 HAVING WINNING RECORDS. SOUTH SIDE HAS 3 STRONG KIDS, THATS ABOUT IT. WEST GREENE NOT TO MUCH AFTER JOHNSTON MAYBE DURBIN? AND FORT CHERRY LOST ALOT. THEY WERE YOUNG DOWN LOW, WILL FINISH TOUGH WITH KUMER AND GARRY BUT THEY WILL NOT BE THAT HIGH FOR SURE. FOR EVERYONE READING THESE I POSTED TEAM PREVIEWS ON WRESTLING REPORT UNDER THE AA SECTION. CHECK IT OUT, IN DEPTH COVERAGE.

ILL ALSO BE COVERING TOURNAMENT (LIVE UPDATES) AND MATCHES WHEN I CAN GO TO THEM BUT ALOT OF TOURNY INFO WILL BE COMING FROM TWITTER. SO EVERYONE GET A TWITTER ACCOUNT AND FOLLOW ME. ILL POST ON WRESTLING REPORT AS MUCH AS I CAN AS WELL. TWITTER @the__eyes

Hey joe, Zan Kail didn't graduate.

Anonymous Joe Tuscano said...

I had Kail listed as a senior. Will check into it.

NA has 10 returners back who started last season. The word everyone wasn't meant to be taken literally, rather "everyone who can make a difference:" Forys, Rodgers, Landerfeld, Monper, DeCiantis, Lux. Should have been more clear.

I was considering cutting Class AA off at 5, and might do so for the regular season. Picking 7-10 was difficult. I'm optimistic about South Fayette because I like their coach. Want to see how it shakes out first.

Joe, its good seeing 7 to 10 posted even if its a hunch; no one will hold your feet to the fire and it give us an idea of who's lurking in the Top 10 for those who only have insight into their local schools.

Pretty Close Assessment Joe,

1. Canon McMillan - potential 8 PIAA place winners all starters return except Catalano

2. Franklin Regional - potential 6 PIAA place winners losing Megaludis hurts but return Johnson, Fleck, Wilhelm and a slew of freshman

3. Pitt Central Catholic - potential 6 PIAA place winners good group helped by Joseph, MOritz, and younger Coniker

4. North Allegheny - potential 5 PIAA place winners team with a lot of depth

5. Latrobe - potential 5 PIAA placewinners - strong group with some experience

6. Hempfield - potential 3 PIAA placewinners - Cavallo and Krivus should help some of there veterns compete in their section

7. Kiski Area - potential 2 PIAA place winners - McCutheon and Kuhn will lead this group with a lot of starters gone from previous season

8. Peters Twp - potential 3 PIAA place winners - nice core led by a tough trio Buckiso, Palamides, and Evanovich.

9. Connellsville - potential PIAA place winner - we will see what this traditional powerhouse can come up with led by Kenney, Wiltrout and Aumer

10. Butler, Hampton - lot of tough wrestlers and returning starters

Aumer was a senior last year for connellsville, they won't be top 10 at years end. Butler lost 6 starters and had a very average jr. high team, their short run is done. U.S.C will be a top 8 team, they only lost 3 starters and have good depth. Hampton will be tough to beat, exept for CMC. (Cannon Mac Catholic)

You are probably right about usc kind of overlooked them and Hampton will be tough. They have a good coach that motivates and prepares them. Canon mac catholic take no prisoners!

Someone on here owes me an " sorry you were right", I know that I saw Aumer wrestle the last 4 years and he was done in 2011.

You meant to say "SomeBODY on here owes..."

Do you see what I mean? This is a circus! Instead, try visiting a real site where obscure and irrelevant rules of British-style English are not ignored:

www.post-g..

OK, I'm goofing, but doesn't it sound like something that guy would say?

And when you're right you're right...er, correct? I don't actually know. I saw Aumer listed as a junior a few times last year too, so easy mistake.
