Wiercioch ruled eligible to wrestle

Observer-Reporter

By a unanimous 7-0 vote, the PIAA Board of Control upheld the transfer of Cody Wiercioch from Charleroi to Canon-McMillan High School and made him eligible to compete this season.

Wiercioch won gold and silver medals in the state tournament while at Charleroi and enrolled in Canon-McMillan for this, his junior year, after his parents purchased a house in Cecil Township.

Wiercioch had a hearing with the WPIAL Board of Control Oct. 17 and his eligibility was denied by an 8-6 vote.

The hearing in front of the WPIAL board was needed after Charleroi contested Wiercioch’s tranfer. The family moved from its home in Charleroi to Cecil Township and Cody and his sisters enrolled in Canon-McMillan.
The Wiercioch family had looked at purchasing a home in the Chartiers-Houston School District.

Charleroi and Canon-McMillan agreed that Wiercioch was not recruited to wrestle for Canon-McMillan.

charleroi, meaning the whole city, the whole school? kinda seemed like just another day in life outside of the matmatter blog. At $3.45/gal, I'm sure attendance from the valley was in the single digits. good luck this season to cody. too bad the adults can't act like kids.

Ed, I would not say untrue statements have been said, as I have been present and privy to things you have said and who you have said them about. Your arrogance and mouth put your son through an unnecessary ordeal so please don't distort facts. Sell that to someone else. If you would like to question my integrity in the real world, I have a stellar history and would welcome the oppotunity. Good luck to you Cody, many more people are pulling for you than you realize. I won't be wasting time on here anymore but will be watching your progress. Good luck.

12:01, you have so much integrity, you run your malicious blogs through an anonymous name. How about revealing your true identity. jealousy will get you no where. Be happy for Cody. Be happy for Cannon Mac. This year we are all going to be witnessing history. If things go according to planned, this may be one of the best teams ever. I for one am excited. By the way my son does not wrestle for CM (a neighboring school)

I wonder how the parents of good homegrown CM Wrestlers, who my be bumped out of the lineup, feel about Chitsko, Wiercioch, Macri?
For those of you old enough to remember I feel like the American Indian from that old public service announcement that had the trash thrown at him. The tear rolling down his face....I still believe the kids from Canonsburg, North Strabane, Hill Station, and Cecil can take on and beat the entire state without help from a bunch of hired guns. I remember how mad the CM faithful were when Trinity acquired Bob Truby and NA was hosting Seneca Valley's best. Well the shoe is on the other foot now.

Just asked a question. Don't get so defensive. Were you around to watch Craig Delarso win the PIAA? Did you go to W&J and watch Trinity and the Big Macs battle for the team tournament? Do you remember Stan Mousites throwing a chair across the gym at Wash High? Were you cheering for Mike Dobbin when he battled Youska from Shaler or O'Daniel vs Morgan. Were ya'? How about Patenski, Rothka, Dami , Angle, Johnson, McClain, Marino, O'Korn,Gibbs, Matusik, Terkay, Mohn,Pihakis. That's the "us" I'm talking about. All were all from the program. Nothing phonie about that! Some people care about the essence of high school sports some don't. Nothing more, nothing less.

Ok guys you got your boy in. Now lets see what you can do. No excuses now. Not too much pressure is it? Best in the country I doubt. Try winning the state first then will talk. That's why we play the game. Can't wait! Can you! And to the CM faithfull. Try winning with class not arrogance. Maybe give back to the community that helped put you where you are today. You talk about the Trinity's and Na's of the world doing the same and you are correct. But, where are they now? Build up the area and competition in the area that you represent and watch your program become even more than what you have today. It's wrestling season!!! The best time of the year.

Building up competition 6:19 is up to everyone in the area not just one community . As far as getting who's boy where that's absurd . Who said pressure was necessarily bad.? Best in the country ? that's your talk . As far as arrogant , well people hate to see other people win and when they do their jealous . Then they call them arrogant . When your on top people love the mighty to fall it's human nature. And you are no different . Regardless of the out come, I know the guys will give their best and may the chips fall . Either way I'm a fan . See you there!

I don't know if he is the best in the country, but the Flo-Wrestling video shows me that Brandon Griffin would handle Canon-Mac's newest recruit.
In fact, I heard that after the match at Super 32, Griffin snatched the old man's Super-32 T-Shirt right off of the old man's back, wiped the sweat off of his brow, and gave it back to the old man, without saying a word.

To Greg Thomas , SO you consider a transfer even if someone moves into the district in the 5th grade as Angle did . In other words by your statement you have to be born in the town ,you can't move in under any circumstance . I think that would make over half the kids participating in sports today considered transfers . My friend moved to N.A when his son was in 1 grade . He now plays football and wrestles in H.S and starts. HE doesn't consider himself a transfer believe me . So get your facts straight.

The majority of the fans are parents, family members of wrestlers and wrestlers themselves. Low numbers are the norm at high school matches with some exceptions. The general population could care less about wrestling and they haev no idea don't who John Smith or Cale Sanderson is. Hopefully the wrestlers take advantage of the opportunity to use their hard work and talent to get an education.

Yawn!

"Something called the Section Team Tournament gets under way tomorrow night to determine the section championships in Class AAA and Class AA. Four teams at eight sites will battle for the title.
Sounds like it might be a highly competitive and exciting event.
It won't be.
Nothing is on the line for these matches other than seeding in the WPIAL Team Tournament. The four teams at each of these sites advance to the WPIAL Team Tournament, which runs the first week of February." -Joe Tuscano (January 2010).

This was written before Joe started pandering and I agreed with him. NOBODY cares about the team tournament. Wrestling is mano-a-mano. Alway will be...

To Down In Front:

Thought I would take time out from my pandering to tell you my feelings have not changed about the team tournament. I would rather see the regular season extended by one more week and allow for teams to schedule dual meets or go to a tournament than compete in that.

Changes are coming to the scheduling point system next season that will cut down on competitions. That is not a good way to bolster the sport, either.

On point Joe, I don't watch the team tourney; I know the acid test comes up during the individual tourney which is the truely coveted prize and at the same time the team earning the most points is crowned Champ, Its a dun deal and would me more streamlined. Without a team tourney you wouldn't have people jockeying around to get on a stacked team and wanting to add another 15 wins to their record. The sport is extremely physically demanding and without a seperate team tourney the season would be few weeks shorter which would be fine with me; although the people raking in tourney money lose out on soaking up money for an unnecessary tournament.
