City League courts WPIAL
The Pittsburgh City League high schools are applying for inclusion into the WPIAL for certain sports but not wrestling.
That's not good news for the Class AAA teams in District 7 (WPIAL), who were hoping that the City League would switch from the District 10 qualifier to the WPIAL. That would give the district a good chance of regaining the fourth qualifier to the state tournament that it lost when the City League left the WPIAL and competed in the Northwest (D-10) qualifier.

That stinks. They competed in the SW region before without joining the WPIAL, they can do it again. They are, after all, in the southwest of the state.
Let's not forget that the WPIAL did not particular like having the City League in its wrestling tournament. No one was thinking ahead when they allowed the City League to leave for District 10.
The WPIAL had a number of Triple-A schools drop to Class AA a few years later and that altered the PIAA percentages for awarding qualifiers. Suddenly, the CL was important.
They should not be allowed to pick and choose the sports in which they want to join. They should join either all WPIAL sports or none. Just include them like a regular section and everyone is happy.
You mean like Indiana...Erie...it's not like no one else does that. They can remain D8, since that is where they are (and a district is all about the "where" of it) as long as they come back to the SW, if they all are classified AAA, we might get the extra qualifier. But if they don't want to, it's a dead end for now. Too bad. They are really starting to improve too. I won't wipe the blame from D7, but I personally would like to see them come back.
The Southeast AAA Region has 77 schools (61 in District, 16 in District 12). District 7 only has 48 AAA schools. The Southwest Region is not going to get the 4th place qualifier to states if D8 comes back.
