In AAA these are not exactly bold predictions, #1 seed is picked to finish first 12 of 14 times, and nobody lower than a #4 seed is picked at all. If it is that obvious then why do we have pigtails at all? Just send the top 4 from each of the 4 sections and have a 16 man bracket. Make it a two day tournament rather than three.

PS There is no "k" at the end of Lydic.

So Swarrow and Carr are both going to finish ahead of DeMaske at 113? The last time I checked Demaske hammered Swarrow three times this year.

1. Nolf
2. Easler
3. DeMaske
4. Patrick
5. Crouse

I find the two comments fascinating. One complains that I am too conservative in AAA, the other takes me to task over being a little daring in AA.

It is a tough job being a prognosticator.

Leaving aside the boldness of the predictions, I do think we could cut out the 5th place finishers from AAA and make WPIALs a two day tourney. There used to be 20 in the bracket because there were 5 sections, and so you either had to have 15 with a bye or a 20 with 4 pigtails. Now that there are 4 sections it seems that just sending 4 each gives you a perfect 16 man bracket.

Last year at the Giant Center 56 boys wrestled for the state championship. 55 was regional champs. 1 in AAA was a regional runner-up. Why take 3rd,4th, and 5th place finishers at all? $$$ Get rich PIAA on using kids.

I'm a D5 fan, but a few thoughts:

113 Crouse from Chestnut Ridge is 2-1 against Easter and dominated Swarrow earlier in the year.

126 I'm surprised to see Toth and Vahaly listed ahead of Zanetta.

138 Dively from Claysburg is imo the favorite at the weight, a 3 time D6 runnerup had a bad weekend at Altoona. He has handed Szala both of his losses on the year.

152 I'd go with all 3 of the D5 wrestlers ahead of Bafia/D6 wrestlers not named Doak.

170 If Dunbar of Meyersdale finishes ahead of Dibert from Chestnut Ridge, I'll eat my hat. I'd expect Dibert to be in the semifinals against the Blankenship/Vulcano winner.

285 Hayman and Buttry (twice) have both beaten Feathers this year, usually with the matches not being close. I'm expecting Hayman to top Feathers in the 1/4s, if both get past their D7 opponents.

8:35 PM why not just take the top wrestler from each region and make it quick state final. wham bam.. In addition, why the Giant Center with only the top 4 wrestling we could have it in a much smaller venue, lets pick just any high school gym athough it would would have to be AAA or it would be completely inadequate. Press and media optional; free entry through the unlocked side doors (you're welcome EW). Throw them a medal for places 1 through 4 and done deal.
