Match for a Marine
On
Jan. 8, the Peters Township Wrestling team will be hosting the second
"Match for a Marine" event in a dual meet against BP to honor an American hero.
All proceeds from the event, including admissions and concession sales, will be
donated to a charitable organization that has been set-up by our local VFW to
directly benefit Marine SGT. Doug Vitale. Doug was a wrestler at Kiski
and his wife is a graduate of Peters Twp. Doug was seriously injured
while on patrol in Afghanistan, losing both legs and suffering multiple
strokes. He is now in Peters Twp. going through rehab. Tunnel to
Towers Foundation and The Gary Sinese Foundation is building a home for the young
couple that will accommodate all of his needs. This brave young soldier will
need assistance for the rest of his life.
The
Peters Twp. Dance Team, PTSD, VFW Post 764 and the Pittsburgh Leather Neck
Detachment have rallied behind this special night. The goal is to
have 1000 people attend the wrestling match and raise $5000 for this
family. Last yea, the event raised $29,000.
