Hillers suffer

How bad of a season is Trinity having? Bad. The Hillers lost to Jefferson-Morgan in the Trinity Elite Duals, the first time that happened in 15 years. This week, Trinity was beaten by Hopewell. I've searched through some of my archives but I don't think that has ever happened.

How can a program fall so far, so quickly? Actually, it's not that difficult to do. Trinity has only a couple seniors on this year's team and lost seven starters from last year. The problem is this senior class, not its ability but its numbers. Only having a few seniors means that this was a lost year for the program. You can't have any of your classes field just two or three kids and expect it to not hurt you at some point.

That's why the youth and junior high programs are so vital to a program's success.

Yes it is true that the Hillers have had a rough season, but lets not blame the junior high. The last 3 seasons Trinity junior high has a combined record of 29-4 including 3 section titles, 3 victories over canon mac, and a state wide ranking as high as number 2 according to PA wrestling news.

The real problem is that wrestlers quit when they find out they may have to ride the bench for a year. It is easier to just be a student and go home, then to hit the mat room at 3:00. The class of 2007 was loaded wtih wrestling talent. Many wrestlers have taken the easy way out when they could not make the starting line up. Trinity has numerous former wrestlers, former JO state qualifiers, walking the halls, not hitting the mat.

So before you blame the junior high, check your facts. The junior high is not to blame for the short comings of the varsity program.

Only a few seniors huh? Hopewell only has 1 senior on their entire squad.

My post is not about placing blame but only showing what happens when a program loses a class of athletes. Very few programs can win when something like that happens. If, for example, Trinity had five more seniors this year, then the Hillers would have been more competitive.

It a shame that the wrestling and boys basketball had very little or no Sr. Just show the pride in these students. Congrates go to the Sr that did go out. I guess the kids that did not want to sit the bench, just wanted a hand out. I word of advice to these kids, nothing given to you unless you prove yourself. I just hope these kids are not failure in life, cause nothing is given to you.
