Final thoughts on Tri-County tournament
1. Sam Brownlee has the talent to be a state champion but talent is not the only thing a wrestler needs. After losing to Marty Kisla of Chartiers-Houston in the semifinals, the senior heavyweight from Canon-McMillan defaulted out of the tournament. It appeared he was suffering from a bad case of bruised ego.
2. Sam Guidi of Fort Cherry is a bear. His 6-4 loss to P.J. Tasser of Belle Vernon at 171 was a fun match to watch. A little more offense could make Guidi unstoppable in the postseason.
3. Dario Dobbin's move to 103 makes Canon-McMillan a stronger team. And it gives him a better chance to thrive in the postseason.
4. Avella's Kyle Appleby has great skills but wrestled too conservatively against Dan Karpency of Albert Gallatin in the 152-pound finals. It's OK to take more chances in regular season tournaments.
5. Finally: Here's a name to remember: Josh Kwasny. The 112-pound freshman from Charleroi has the look of a special wrestler. He took fifth in the tournament but more important did not look overmatched by the older wrestlers in the weight class.

With Dario at 103 who does Canon MAc have at 112?
I was assuming a move down by one weight class for each of the lightweights. Those are usually closely guarded secrets on a team.
If the move doesn't happen, then maybe Canon-McMillan will be forced to forfeit or use an inexperienced wrestler there. That, of course, would make them weaker.
Colton Shorts, while a talented wrestler, weighs just over 90 pounds.
Sam Guidi is a bull, not a bear.
Thank you
I thought that it was a good tournament overall. A few big names were absent but good depth overall. The 27 scratches before the tournament started was bad and that was followed by 9 more scratches on day two was even worse. That's basically 3 weight classes were absent for whatever reason. The tournament could have been better organized, starting 1 hour late on day one kind of set the tone for the rest of the day. I think that it should be a one day tournament, dragging everyone there on friday for six hours for one round was a waste of time.
Agreed on Kwasny...I had to remind myself that he a true freshman in the 112 pound division.
When I read these comments on how poorly this tournament was run and the number of scratches, it's no wonder wrestling is a DYING SPORT !!!!
Sam Brownlee is a very talented wrestler with some severe maturity issues. He will never reach his full potential until he grows up and takes full accountability for his actions.
Its a shame to say, but at this point it looks like Sam's career as a wrestler may have peaked when he was 14.
