Either one Shorts or Schram at 103 can win WPIAL.

Shorts 11-1 at 103, lost to S. Plainfied New Jersey.
Schram 13-1 at 103, lost to Central Dauphin.

Shorts at 112, 5-2 ( losses both coming to 116 # kids at TRI-County...Shorts only weighed 100.3 for weigh ins. I watched him.

Schram at 112, 10-2

Those two are far more exciting than 215 and heavyweights.

True that might be so that the 10are more action packed than the 285's. But ths 285 pound class do not wrestle 9th graders on a consistant basis. 103 is a JV class mostly.

Tell that to teague moore, coleman scott, jermey hunter, colin johnson, ty moore, greg jones, ect... who all wrestled 103 as 9th and 10th graders.

Age and grade don't matter anymore.

Freshmen(those that train all year) coming in to High School these days are completely capable of and are beating upper classmen at all weights.

You are missing the point the upper-classsmen are fare and few between. AAA rankings, 28 freshmen, 16 10th graders, 4 11th graders, 1 12 grader.

If 103# and 112# have growth spurts and move up to the middle weights they traditionally do not do as well. The truth of the matter is that each weight class tends to wrestle a different style. Light weights are more speed oriented. Middele weights tend to have speed and strength and The heavyweights are more about muscle. That's what makes wrestling so interesting to watch. So who cares if there freshman or seniors.

heavyweights are about muscle unless you get a kid who wrestles 80lbs when he is 8.
100lbs when he is 10
125lbs when he is 12
165 when he is 13
185 when he is 14
210 when he is 15
and when the kid is 18 and 6'3" 250lbs and moves like a lightweight.

You have to go all the way to 145 before you find a weight class with a senior ranked 1st.

We get your point about 103, now ponder ours about the abilities of modern day underclassmen.
