Wiercioch, Carr lose

Cody Wiercioch of Charleroi and Nick Carr of South Fayette each failed to repeat as state champions in the PIAA Class AA tournament Saturday in Hershey. Wiercioch dropped a 5-3 decision in overtime to Burrell's Travis McKillop in the seventh meeting between the two over the past two seasons. The two had each won three bouts heading into the 160-pound finals.
Carr dropped a 4-3 decision to Zach Strickland of Muncy. Strickland broke a 3-3 tie with an escape with 38 seconds remaining in the bout.
McKillop hit a Peterson in the overtime to get the win. Wiercioch had built a 3-0 lead with 50 seconds remaining in the second period but McKillop got an escape and takedown in the third and Wiercioch sent it into overtime with an escape with 35 seconds left in regulation.
Burrell won the team title with 85 points, 1.5 more than Reynolds.
Outstanding Wrestler was Nick Hodgkins of Wyomissing, who won the 145-pound title, his second in three seasons.
