Team semifinal notes

Connor Schram won his 100th career match in the Big Macs 52-9 rout of Greensburg Salem in the semifinals of the WPIAL Class AAA Team Tournament Friday at Ringgold.
Schram expected it to come earlier this season, but he missed about five weeks with muscle spasms in his back. His 16-1 technical fall over Austin Shaw at 120 pounds gave him a 100-7 career mark.
The top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Big Macs (20-0) celebrated by earning a spot in the team finals against North Allegheny, a team they beat 46-12 Dec. 23. The Big Macs can win their third consecutive WPIAL championship today if they can repeat that feat against NA at Chartiers Valley High School.
Brendan Price had an impressive 6-1 decision over Austin Caldwell at 106 that gave C-M a 36-9 lead and Dalton Macri (113) and Colt Shorts (126) capped the scoring with a technical fall and pin, respectively.

Burrell was a surprise 33-28 winner over Chartiers-Houston in Double-A. Burrell is looking for its sixth straight WPIAL championship since the format changed in 1979. No other school has won that many in a row.
The most shocking loss for the Bucs came at 145, where Tanner Sutton lost a 6-4 decision in overtime to Corey Falleroni, a sophomore who is now 10-10. Sutton, who missed the first month of competition with a shoulder injury, had won 17 straight since returning.
Another big win for Burrell came at 182, where John Davidson pinned Steve Hazlett in 1:27. That gave Burrell a 27-16 lead and Dakota Deslauriers put the match away with a pin in 17 seconds of Jimmy Saieva at 195.
Henderson came out for the team in early January after spending the past two seasons on Burrell’s state champion rugby team.

In one of the most bizarre moments of any WPIAL Team Tournament, Jefferson-Morgan and Bentworth exchanged four forfeits in a row in JM's 49-21 win.
The top-ranked and top-seeded Rockets went into the exchange of forfeits with a 12-point lead and came out of it with a 12-point lead.
The win propels Jefferson-Morgan (15-1) into today’s finals against Burrell at Chartiers Valley High School (4 p.m.). J-M is making its first appearance in the finals since winning the 1995 title, 46-12, over West Allegheny.
Jefferson-Morgan won four of the five titles in Double-A from 1989-1993.

I think Sutton is wrestling heavy, because of the shoulder injury. I suspect he is a more natural 138, and may struggle in the individual tournament.

The guy from Burrell is a real butthead and probably never achieved anything on the mat. Keep your comments about wrestlers to yourself. Numbskull.

If your really from Burrell, then why don't you find a blog in the Alle-Kiski area to write on??? Real wrestler don't berate other wrestlers. You sound like a wanna-be wrestler could not make the team.

I agree with 12:41 not 100% sure but heard at wpial semis that canon macs 170 pounder has not had a point scored against him all season except by letting kids up for 1 after taking them down that is impressive.

Unfortunately, you can't turn back time...McKillop had an edge in those matches. He was stronger in the third period. He had more "energy". He won all the matches late.

To dismiss all assumptions, all amateur wrestlers should be tested for performance enhancers at the beginning of the season and at the beginning of the individual PIAA tournament.

12:41...

State Title as a freshman and State Title Runner-up as a sophomore, sorry, you can't do any better...

At this point, as magnificent as his career will be be as a junior and as a senior, barring injury, he will only ever match, not exceed, his amazing achievement as a Freshman at lowely Char-Leroy when he won Super 32, Powerade, and the PIAA championship in the same year...

He can't get the Tri-fecta this year( Super 32 Default). Hopefully, he matches his achievement as a freshman at Charleroi when he is a senior.

I wish him the best. Fantastic young man and wrestler.

You know if cody w. was on your team you would be loving it like we do. He is a very respectful person with class and only if you people got to know him you would love the kid. Never a bad thing out of his mouth about anyone.

those four forfiets in a row were the direct result of no one on the jefferson morgan team being willing to take the mat against Francis Mizia. The J-M coach admitted as much when he said they needed to win the toss so they could avoid wrestling him. And somehow in this paper he never gets even a single mention. There are other quality wrestlers in Washington County than from Canon Mac or Chartiers Houston!
