Tribute to a wrestling writer

I knew him, but not well. I did know he was instrumental in wrestling coverage in the newspaper and that deserves our recognition.

From Brad Wilson, Times-Express

Hard as it is to believe, there was a time when scholastic wrestling had trouble making the sports pages around Pennsylvania.

Don Seeley helped change all that as the longtime wrestling writer and then sports editor of The Mercury in Pottstown, Montgomery County.
Seeley died today pursuing one of his great loves, golf. He had recently retired from the Mercury.
Seeley was one of the first writers to devote in-depth coverage to wrestling. He was one of the first to do individual wrestling rankings. His Sunday wrestling pages attracted fans to drive from miles away to buy The Mercury. He wrote a book on the history of PIAA District 1 (Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties) wrestling. He was a member of every Hall of Fame for which he was eligible.
Don set a standard for wrestling coverage that those of us in the business will be trying, and no doubt failing, to live up to for years.
