Thoughts on the Section Team Tournament

1. From most reports, the section team tournaments were a success, drawing good crowds and, more important, providing some exciting matches. At Fort Cherry, the two matches the Rangers competed in were nail-biters and each had a dramatic finish. Sam Guidi's pin in the final bout pushed the Rangers past Keystone Oaks on a tiebreaker. A pin by Chartiers-Houston's Colton Miller in the final bout of the finals, stopped Fort Cherry from winning and gave the Bucs a thrilling win.

2. How many fans would have thought that at the beginning of the season, Bentworth would be the Section 2 champion? The two of you go to the head of the class. The Bearcats' resurgence has been spectacular. Albert Thomas, in his first year as head coach, has done a great job and shows that a program can turn around if the athletes are dedicated, hard-working, and plentiful.

3. Burrell beating Shady Side Academy by 12 in Section 3-AA, Penn-Trafford knocking off Derry by 15 in Section 1-AAA, and Bethel Park drubbing Waynesburg by 36 in the Section 4-AAA final were surprising not because of which team won but by the margin of victory.

4. Congratulations to Canon-McMillan for extending its consecutive streak of section titles to nine seasons with the 30th section title in the program's history. The Big Macs have not lost a section match in eight years. Impressive.
