The real thing

Normally, I am hesitant to coronate young wrestlers who get off to a fast start but there is no denying the talent that Cody Wiercioch possesses. The 152-pound freshman from Charleroi High School captured the hearts of wrestling fans when he won his weight class in the Powerade Christmas Wrestling Tournament. Wiercioch is the first wrestler from Charleroi to win a title at Powerade in 40 years.
Winning the Chartiers-Houston Invitational was a good accomplishment for such a young wrestler but taking a Powerade title means Wiercioch is something special. What makes him so much fun to watch is his technique is nearly flawless, he never gets out of position, he has great balance and has incredible poise for a freshman.
After suffering through some lean seasons, wrestling fans in this area could use someone like Wiercioch to reignite interest in the sport. His presence in the Cougars lineup makes him a must-see attraction.
How far can he go?
Well, the state tournament is not out of the question.
A state champion?
I don't like putting that type of pressure on anyone but it will be fun to see if that's possible.

Truly deserving of your praise. Earns everything he gains through hard work, dedication and positive thinking. Wants to wrestle the best opponents out there. Will wrestle up to do so. This alone sets him apart from most in the sport today.

A fine young man from a fine family.

A child of God this kid is. The choosen one not just wrestling but everything else as well. It's through wrestling we see this. He inspires people and other kids follow him. I know wrestlers who bully smaller kids in the work out room and pick on younger kids. Not this kid. When he walks into a wrestling room the whole place lights up and he makes everybody work harder.

Very, very rarely does a freshman excel in the state tournament in weight classes above 140 lbs.

With all due respect the weight class is 6 deep. First place is a given. Everybody else is wrestling for 2nd and 3rd etc. No disrespect to wrestlers in 152 but it is what it is.

Powerade is usually a pretty good guage of states. Very rarely do you see a wrestler win the Powerade and not place at states. Great to see Wash county kid with this kind of talent. Good luck to him and the rest of our local wrestlers.

True it was 5-1, and from the records that was Wiercioch's 2nd HS match of his freshman start.

I see above Mike Innes has been around the 152 lb class. I think he will give the Charleroi kid a go.

Whoever thinks Innes can go with weirchok I'll meet you at the tri county tournament with $1,000 dollars in cash to bet. Make sure you tell your wife that you took the money and spent it on a good cause. A donation to my bank account. Magon from Avella bring your money as well. I'll spot you points also.

Remember this is a 15 year old kid. He doesn't need you writing checks for him as the pressure is great for him already. Innes is real good and so is McKillop. Lets not crown him PIAA Champ just yet. Lets enjoy this kid while we can and not cast a shadow with your prop bets.

Marty,

You are a poor college student who quit the football team. I think you still are a poor college student. But I'll take your $1,000 anyway. You are correct about one thing. You are hard to miss for sure because your head resembles a giant lolipop. Sucker!!!!!

All right, let's tone it down a bit. Don't make me have to come up there and delete posts.

This is his father, Marty. Come see me Saturday. I'd like to discuss some things with you. I doubt you will show your face though. You like to pick on kids?

Thank you

Enough is enough already, just let Cody wrestle and stop all of this nonsense. It is really getting out of hand. He didn't ask or would want any of this being said about him.

I hate to break up this little lovefest but Innes and Wiercioch are in different weight classes for this tournament.

Innes wrestled tough at 140. He got second. How the heck was he going to win at 152? Kisla saved himself 1K dollars. He didn't save face however because he didn't come to the tournament to watch his former teammates wrestle and get a team 3rd. Good job Bucs. Good coaches at CH.
