Classic heavyweight match at Bedford this past weekend. Tarley lost a close bout to the kid from Richland. These two did not wrestle like heavyweights and I am sure they will meet again at HErshey. Tied 1-1, Richland gets takedown with 24 seconds left, Tarley escapes and tries a throw as time is expiring and gives up 2 more. 5-2 final but tons of exciting wrestling. I have not been a fan of the heavyweight class because of the stalling and leaning and "paint-drying" action, but these two were worth the price of admission.
This is for dirty grillo. Tarley lost a match so you can be happy now.
You are goofy!
I used to watch Tarley get beat all the time by Dan Conley. I am a fan. Doesn't mean Hull and Gaffney and Garrey wouldn't pin him though.
Thanks for the shoutout.
-Dirty Grillo
How does Mogan keep getting ranked at 119, when he keeps wrestling at 135? I also saw Mckinney wrestled Lombardo at 145, so it looks like he dropped down a weight. You should have a new #1 at 145.
Dan Conley? he graduated in 2008, I sure hope he could beat someone 4 years younger.
AA 160- Jared Lux goes to NA. AAA school
Dan Conley beat Tarley a kid 4 years younger. I saw all those matches and Conley had to work hard to beat a kid 4 years younger. Tarley at 17 would beat Conley now who is what about 20 or 21 now? Good try reaching back into the past. We live in the present and work towards the future.
I knew I would make that mistake at least once during the season. I'll change it.
The Tarley faithful are so delusional about his talent. He is very good but you make statements that are foolish. I wish you all the luck. Good luck this year.
How about all the forfeits in the team tourney. What a joke.
-Dirty Grillo
Cmon Joe, you pulled Lux out and put another AAA kid in from Kiski! You better vacation before PIAA's come around.
I'm not reading Tarley faithful, but I am reading Dirty Grillo's jealousy. The kid (Tarley) is good. Period. Move on. Speaking of good, that is what Weircoch (spelling?)is. He is good with the possibility of being great. His coach called him "one of the greatest he has ever seen." He apparently has not been around here too long. Let's not put him up their with Cary Kolat, Jeremy Hunter and Ty Moore just yet. Those guys achieved a whole other level than winning Powerade. He has a good skill set, but Hershey is a WAY different ballgame. To be a champ there 4 times is probably the greatest accomplishment any high school athlete can achieve. Best of luck to Cody, but don't get the crown out of the box just yet.
OK, I have to admit I was trying to have a little bit of fun with you all. See who was paying attention. The first one really was a mistake. I will change it now . . . or will I?
The Charleroi coach was probably speaking from a Charleroi perpective ...ie school history. The kid has from what I can see 4 maybe 5 years in wrestling. That is a eye opener. I take my son down to Quest and I see Jim Ackerly talk to him after each practice and some of those talks I'am sure include one match at a time and be humble, that young man certainly is. Good job parents.
Hey Merkle,
Our coach was speaking of wrestlers he has coached. Lets be real, Charleroi hasn't exactly been a juggernaut lately. I would think Weircoch was most certainly the best since he has coached there. Who would be better?
And I am not jealous of Tarley and enjoy watching him wrestle..
-Dirty Grillo
Merkle, Moore, Kolat where light weights wrestling a large percentage of 9th 10th graders. Wierchalk has yet to put hands on a 9th grader. Just facts.
Dirty Grillo,
You do not enjoy watching Tarley wrestle. So shut up and don't waiver on your original opinion. It makes you look even more foolish than you really are.
Merkle,
Time will tell on the Charleroi Sensation Weirchok for calcium heads like you. I already know better. He's the best there has ever been and will be the greatest high school wrestler ever to come out of pa.
Don't go there Anonymous at 1:26. Kolat wrestled at the Midlands instead of Powerade when he was in High School. The Midlands is an open college-level tournament and Moore wrestled AAA where very few freshman are in starting line-ups. And if you look back to when more shuffling of line-ups were permitted, you would see that Kolat wrestled as high as 152 in dual meets. PLEASE don't put the Charleroi kid is the same category as him yet, that is all I am asking.
Obviously when people make ridiculous comments like the one at 2:05, they prefer to remain anonymous. Best Ever? Nothing like a little pressure on a 15 year old.
Kolat wrestled a grand total of ZERO freshman his first regular season in high school. You're assuming incorrectly, because he was a 119.
Like Peterson is not anonymous. Is that your first name or last name? Jim Peterson, John Peterson, or peterson smithfield. anyway you look at it you are definetly a peter son.
It happens to be Steve Peterson and your just proving what a little boy you are. Go get mommy to wipe your nose and read you your homework.
I think this Weircioch is very good but, no way is he even close to Kolat. He only beat Mizia from Bentworth 5-0. Kolat dominated wrestlers in the whole state of PA. during his four year run. Just a question: was Weircioch a state champion in J.O's? I havn't followed this kid till this year. I wish all the local boys the best of luck but, comparing a freshman to an olympic wrestler is pretty bold to say the least.
Never mind on the Weircioch being a state champion. I looked it up. From what I could see he was champ twice and took second once. Kolat won states from 1982 until he graduated high school now thats a feat. No comparison by any means.
I agree with all on Kolat. He was the best there was. If any body wants to argue it I will meet you in a dark alley and we can go at it. Kolat dominated. If you attempted to score on him and possibly caught him off guard(Rarity), He would come back to the center and nearly tear off an appendage that you valued.
From what I gather, Werchalk wrestled for 4 years first year 2nd, Iam saying first year and then back to back championships. As far as Meza from Bentworth, those two wrestled all summer at Quest, and he must be worried cause he was seen at CH, not to watch Charleroi wrestle but Cody. This kid is book smart. According to this paper's site a 4.0. Kolat has a style that works for him but no one else he teaches. He has kids that go to him that are good, they where that way before they got to him. Fact!
Kolat is a great teacher. Have you seen his website? A style all his own? He has over 3000 videos teaching different aspects of the sport. Anyone that has seen him teach in action, knows he is effective. Anyone that thinks otherwise is probably not a good enough athlete for this sport in the first place.
If you ask me Wiercioch isn't the favortie to win WPIALS. McKillop is seasoned and has been in dozens of close matches agaist top tier kids. I think he will beat Cody at WPIAL. I am not hating...Just saying.
Can Btown beat Shady Side tonight?
belly lint, Mchillop, tuff matches. His last couple himes ridgway record 3-3, minch brookville 2-20, scisciani, highlands 17-10, deciantis na, 13-10 9th grader. You are one of the many reasons bashing kids and so on, are why numbers gto down and leaving this fine sport grow every year. You say your not hating you struck a nerve with many.
Huh?
Was that English?
Hey Claw...I am not new to this game. I am talking about matches in Johnstown and Hershey. Not matches in the WPIAL. I have never bashed anyone on here. I stated who I thought would win.
Do you know how stupid you sound Belly Buton Lint Funk when you say mckillop will beat weirchok. mckillop is 27-4 with one of those loses to weirchok who beat mckillop at powerade. weirchok is so much more confident now mckillop has no chance.
as for peter peterson or steve peterson or jimmy or johnny peterson your mommy wipes more than my nose and does more than homwork with me. you shouldn't have mentioned my mommy. now don't bring mommy's into this again ok peter puffer peterson.
McKillop lost to Weirchok by one point. It might have been overtime if I recall. I guess we will see how stupid I am. McKillop has a couple state tourneys under his belt already. In my mind that counts for something. Suppose you thought I was stupid too when I called Btown over Char Houston? You guys are putting the cart before the horse in regards to Wierchok. Comparing him to Kolat and handing him the WPIAL title is foolish and applies unnecessary pressure.
This blog is heating up. I love it.
I want to wrestle Brant Neuman.
Again proving my point. You sure like to use the word peter alot. Must be always occupying that tiny mind of yours.
Guys, seriously are you all in high school or just don't know how to spell. If you need to know how to spell Weircioch it is spelled out for you in the rankings. And to Claw what planet are you from dude? Not one word made sense in your paragraph. What does teaching wrestling have to do with actually wrestling. I personally didn't know that Cody wrestled and coached his team as well. And I guess we should put him in that movie Vision Quest since he only wrestled for four years. Again, Kolat won states 9 years in a row including 4 in high school. Cody is not a finished product. He is young and not that dominating of a wrestler. Mizia from Bentworth will be lucky to place at states and unless there is no competition at his weight class I don't see Cody winning it all either. I hope he proves me wrong but, only time will tell. He still will never come close to the accomplishments of Kolat however. You know Dirty Grillo talks about Tarly like he is a piece of garbage but even he won more state championships than this Weircioch. My point is lets wait and see what this kid can do and enjoy the fact that we actually have a local boy to watch and blog about.
peter peter pumpkin eater whats your point richard.
My point is you have not had an intelligent thought on this blog yet. You are showing everyone your immaturity. If you don't want to talk wrestling, stay off the blog. I am sure there is a iCarly episode on that will be right up your alley
Mizia did go to CH...he's a ladies man.. he went with a few of his friends from his school not only to watch Wiercioch, but also to see his lady friend.. He should be worried.
8:19 post, With daddy leading the way, how nice. LIAR.
Mizzia, Ladies man? That kid looks like a fruit bat. I have seen better heads on a glass of beer.
That lady must like ugly dudes.
He is the Willie Mcgee of the WPIAL.
Post 8:20, You still managed to spell Wiercioch incorectly, you must be a legend in your own mind. To be in the same sentance as Mr, Kolat is a honor. But, two different wrestlers. As far as the same sentance, of academics are concernd, Wiercioch would not, nor the volital home life Mr. Kolat had, which no one talks about. You are a product of your enviroment...so you have two different wrestler's just enjoy the home town kid, wish him well, as of all the fine wrestler's we have in are in are area.
In regards to Chartiers – Burrell match last night and the Observer Reporter article on the match. I am from Chartiers Houston and would first like to congratulate Burrell on a hard fought match. However, I can tell you that Mr. Yates was very aware of how important the coin flip is/was as any good coach should be when it comes down to two good teams meeting for a championship. Preparing your kids to be focused and ready to wrestle should be your first priority, but please don't think that everyone is that stupid to believe that you were not focused on the coin flip as well. Getting the match-ups is very important just as it is in football and a many other sports.
Italian Hammer, so correct the mental lagistics of a match of that magnatude should be first and for most, also a Bucco, this hurts.
P.S.. Italian Hammer, know what you get when Italian marries a Pole, a happy dude at the dinner table. Ya, brother.
CM-wrestling, before you get on anyone about spelling, you might want to check your own. Example: sentence, incorrectly, environment.
Robert Frost, The only thing you got out of CM- wrestling's post was incorrect spelling. I hope you are not involved in wrestling in any way. You, GOOVNA GLOVA
Jack Be Nimble. It was joke haha. What is Goovna Glova?
Hey peterson i have all the episodes of icarly on dvd already. remember you lent me your collection of icarly dvds along with your favorite "the pros and cons of being named after a body part" dvd also.
Wiercioch is a good wrestler but has yet to prove anything at the high school level. Comparing him to Kolat isn't fair to him or Kolat. Let wiercioch win a state title or two and then start the comparison, in the meantime let him enjoy being a freshman wrestler. Pressure will come soon enough.
Kudos to cm-wrestling. The only one who figured out the mistake (lol). That was called an intentional to see how many people out there actually realize who and what there talking about. Have you seen how many different ways the boys name was spelled. You started off as though you were intelligent but, I also sensed emotion in what you were trying to say. I did not comment on his academics. I was simply pointing out that if Kolat was a bad teacher of the sport that it would have had no impact on how good of a wrestler he was. You are right they are 2 different wrestlers but, Wiercioch (did I get it right) should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Kolat. He is an unfinished product and there is a lot of pressure put on him already as noted by all of these bloggers. Now if you want to compare him to Tarly I could appreciate that because neither of them has accomplished anything at this point. 2 state championships in JO's don't mean anything when it comes to high school wrestling. Again I hope he proves me wrong. I do root for all of the local boys and wish him the best of luck. I just feel that he is a far cry from being Kolat (wether he was environmentally challenged or not). Noone in this state can match the record that Kolat achieved and that's all I'm saying. I don't want to hear that Cody has only wrestled for 4-5 years. That means nothing unless you plan to use it as an excuse if he looses. If you think he is good enough to be compared to Kolat then we don't need to hear about how many years it took him to get there. Kolat was winning state championships frm when he was able to participate till he graduated high school. He dominated 98% of every wrestler he ever faced in high school. Remember this blog was about comparing the two wrestlers. In my legend of a mind a cannot see one (yet).
i think mizia looks like i fruit bat too...but i guess the CH ladies like it?
This blog post needs to end. I pray the freshman's life is busy enough not to find this site and I would imagine it is. Joe shut this down. Post, 11:47 PM, I don't believe that the years of wrestling is a excuse for anything. Just a time line of the great success he has accomplished.
just a time line in which in a very short time much success has come to him
I agree that this blog needs to stop. Cody would not want any of this being said about him. He is a very humble and hard working individual, all he wants to do is wrestle. We as his parents are very proud of him and how reacts to all of the compliments or negativity about him being said. He does not read this column because as posted before he has better things to do with his time and it doesn't matter to him about what anybody else says about him just what he himself does on the mat.
Thanks
BW
No one said anything bad about your son. His actions speak for themselves.
He sounds like a solid kid so he probably doesn't need his mommy's help.
Moor parents who care enough to = less Grandparents taking care of there childrens children...
BW,
we are all in awe of the charleroi cougar and just admire him so much we say things and compliment him too much sometime and for that we are sorry. BW, we respect you and will stop. we meant no harm just a bunch of foolish wrestling fans star struck with the freshman phenom thats all. he is great what a ya gonna do! ok thanks bye.
Weirchock would pin Tarley.
Elias from Shady Side should be #1 at 112. I think he could handle Toth.

Dirty Grillo,
I forgot to say something else. weirchok would pin tarley even though he is giving up 100lbs. you moron.
Yins are too easy.
-Dirty Grillo
Don't swear on my blog!
don't swear on the blog! we can call each other morons and jerks and idiots etc. but don't cuss.
Hey Dirty Grillo its spelled yinz not yins ya big jag off n nat. yinz aint got no pant n nat
Dirty Grillo,
I know that both Wiercioch and Tarly can beat you now and back in your prime. And Kolat would tech fall you and he weighed 40-50lbs lighter than you. I agree DG, it is very easy. DG arn't you from the Roi area. Why are you belittling your own area wrestlers let alone from your own school. I hope that's not your auto shop in the Roi. I bet the Toth's and Wiercioch's won't be getting their tires changed at your place anytime soon. Now if you return a comment then you will be no better than us yinzers. If you don't who cares.
You have me confused with someone else.
Sorry.
