All-District Team. Your opinion

I will be releasing the O-R's All-District team soon and I thought I would get some input on who you think should be on it. Now, I will tell you this. Everyone who medaled at the state tournament is on one of the two 14-man teams. So you don't have to pick Cody Wiercioch, Connor Schram or Nick Carr, et al. Dig a little deeper than that and let me know what you think.

Why is South Fayette (which I believe is in Allegheny County)considered for All-District honors from a newspaper that covers Washington/Greene Counties? Do we not, in your opinion, have enough quality locally that we must extent into Allegheny to fill our All-District Team? Why not Southmoreland and Fayette, then we could call it an All-County Team!

We have newspaper circulation in that area so we cover the team. Same way with Monessen. It's not a lot but hey, they buy the paper. I bet most of you don't know that South Fayette's mailing address is McDonald, Pa.

285 Tarley, Not Linn. 189 Garcia, not Kiefer. There has to be someone better than Thorpe at 171. Probably another Magic City blogger.

Ellis @ 171 from Waynesburg deserves a nod for the 2nd team. If he hadn't blown out his elbow at sections may have been a factor at WPIAL's. Deadly at anytime with his now famous crossface cradle.

Ellis did win tri county I think thorpe was 4th. Tarley gets the nod over Linn, 125 Lipari spanked Mcginniss at tri county 8-2, 135 catalano,140 should be Swink he did beat Innes at tri county, 160 guidi ( he did lose to Saylor but the stupid throw he tried was the difference, down 5-0 after 1 period then the score ended up 7-6), Garcia would have beaten keifer ( was keifer at tri county?) 215 is Gaffeny ( hey if we are going to add South Fayette , we should add Connellsville,

Joe, sam lombardo at 140 or it's not an all star team. he gave 100% in every match, wrestled the full 6 minutes no matter what the score was, he was and should be an all star.

I like Sam, hard not to. My boy said, this is one guy who should have stuck to wrestling JR High HS and wrestled during the summer. He would have been on that prestigious state champ board they have in the wrestling room.

sam did stick to wrestling. he wrestled since he could crawl. what the heck you mean should have stuck to wrestling? its all he did. what you are saying is he should have not played football. as far as summer tournaments he did play other sports but wrestling has always been number one sport.

We mean wrestle as his only sport. There is that CM attitude that nobody likes. Chill out. Yea no football. Do you not have a top wrestling club in your area. Nuff said!

Sam Lombardo definetly deserves a spot. That kid works harder than anyone! Sam plays three sports and i cant blame him for that. He's in high school. He is a great athlete and playing three sports shows that. He should be able to experience all he can in his four years. He can concentrate on one of them when he goes to college.

Sam will concentrate on wrestling in college, but he is what high school sports should be all about. Do it all if you are capable! He is a throwback, and a refreshing one at that! An undersized gritty catcher on the baseball team, a linebacker and leader (at 145 lbs) on the football team and a wrestler who gets the most out of his ability.....WPIAL runner-up and Classic winner. Most importantly he is a superb young man!

Linebacker? 5'7 145 pounds? no wonder CM is average in Football, sorry. Mike hull did not wrestle this year because of football, Lombardo should have done the same for wrestling.. It is scary that if Sam would have dedicated himself to this sport 12 month of the year what he would have accomplished.. I love is motor on the mat.

the district team came out today and its an absolute sin not to have fred garcia 189 from ringold on the list. here we have an undefeated kid 33-0 ranked number #1 in wpial and has beaten all the kids picked before him. why is he not on the list? because he hurt his ankle in wpials and had to default out?

Joe you asked readers for an all district team. Is 33-0 ranked #1 in wpial tournament good chance he wins if not blown out ankle but it is what it is. All i am saying is from a district standpoint not to have fred on the list because he blew out his ankle is ridiculous.

he needs to be included or your list is incomplete. please getting injured in the first round of wpial tournament should not cost him a spot on a local district list.

what about klempay? he beat campbell from charleroi but got hurt at wpials and isn't on the list. why? I suppose mike hull wrestling a very limited number of matches was excluded i can see that. although hull would pin rands and campbell he didn't wrestle enough matches ok. klempay was 2nd in powerade and lost to rands twice but beat campbell.

has anyone noticed where the heck is fred garcia and why he isn't on the all district team. too late now the team was picked and the paper printed. 33-0 #1 ranked kid wpial all year gets hurt in wpial tournament can't finish and its like he never existed. beat mcwreath who was placed on 1st team.

Not having Garcia at 189 is a joke, he beat Mcwreath, who was a state semi finalist, which leads me to think that garcia would have been in the state finals against Callender. also having thorpe on the list and not putting Ellis there is funny. Ellis would pound Thorpe, by at least 5. Both Garcia and Ellis got hurt in the post season and are being forgotten about, come on joe give these wrestlers their due.

Tri-County is the only time all local wrestlers have a chance to wrestle each other and is a very good barometer to determine who are the best wrestlers in the area.
AAA & AA wrestlers don't very often see each other, any other time during the season. Their are alot more AAA schools in the Whips than AA thats why AA schools don't go directly to states. I'am not saying AA wrestlers are not good but winning a AAA championship is usally a lot harder than AA. Garcia won Tri-County the last two years, 3 time Section Champ, over 120 career wins, Placed 3rd Free style states & beat both AAA 189 finalists during the seasons. He has not made the Tri-County team either yr yet you pick 3 189 wrestlers. Do you really think He is only the fourth best 189 wrestler in the area. Prior to his injury He was ranked 6 in the state & He beat Pollard ranked 4th at Super 32 in Oct. Toth winning TriCounty & Whips should have made the team

I tried to address the problem with injuries in the above post. This was a very unusual year with so many ranked wrestlers missing the tournament.

In the 30 years I've covered the sport, this has not happened before. We might have had one or two but this year my list included six who missed the tournament for various reasons.
