Hall of Fame
Two area men are among the dozen individuals who will be inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame this year. Former Trinity high School coach Stanley Dubelle and Canon-McMillan graduate and NCAA champion Sylvester "Bear" Terkay will be inducted during ceremonies will be held April 25 in State College.
The other inductees are Jeff Catrabone, a state champion from Harbor Creek; Richard stauffer, a state champion from Kingston High School; John Toggas, a former coach at Parkland High School,; Richard Stuyvesant, a former coach at Fairview High School; Jody Strittmatter, a PIAA champ from Cambria Heights and national champ from Pitt-Johnstown; William Cramp, a Shaler Townshipp graduate who was an official for 26 years; Bob Funk, a state champ from Manheim Township; Vertus Jones, a state champ from Greensburg Salem; Pitt head coach Rande Stottlemyer; and Dr. Bill Welker, a state champion from Shamokin.
Dubell coached 10 seasons at Trinity, compiling a 108-28-1 record, and coaching seven state champions.
Terkay had a 122-14 record at North Carolina State and became an NCAA champion in 1993.
