Waynesburg U. wrestling camp
The Waynesburg University wrestling team will host its first All-Star Technique Camp from June 28 until July 1, which will feature an impressive list of staff and instructors.
Along with head coach Ron Headlee and assistant coach John Yates, who led the Yellow Jackets to the 2010 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) wrestling championship, the first in school history, and produced four national qualifiers and an All-American in just two years on the job, superstars of high school, college and world class wrestling will work with the campers.
Cary Kolat, four-time undefeated Pennsylvania state champion, four-time Division I collegiate All-American and member of the United States Olympic wrestling team will assist Headlee, his former high school coach, at the camp.
Also joining the staff is another four-time, Division I collegiate All-American in Sanshiro Abe. Abe is the current head wrestling coach at Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School and was a member of the Japanese Olympic wrestling team.
A pair of Waynesburg natives, who were both coached by Yates at Waynesburg Central High School, will also be a part of the staff in Coleman Scott and Josh Koscheck.
After winning three Pennsylvania state titles at WCHS, Scott went on to be a four-year starter at national powerhouse Oklahoma State and won a Division I national title as a senior.
Koscheck was also a highly accomplished wrestler at Waynesburg before going on to Edinboro and winning a national title as an undefeated senior. After hanging up his wrestling shoes, Koscheck moved on to the world of mixed martial arts and quickly rose up the ranks of the fighting world. He is currently one of the top welterweight fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC), the premiere MMA organization in the world.
Rounding out the staff are Waynesburg assistant coaches Drew Headlee and Matt Blair, along with members of the Yellow Jacket wrestling team.
The camp is designed for serious wrestlers who want to improve their technique from all three positions. The schedule, which runs from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., includes drilling, technique, mental preparation, individual attention, meals and live nightly competitions between wrestlers.
The camp costs $150 for commuters and includes all sessions, lunch, dinner and a camp t-shirt. Campers who stay at Waynesburg get all of the above items, along with overnight accommodations for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, along with breakfasts at a cost of $225 per individual. Special rates for teams are available and the camp is limited to the first 100 registrations.

That lineup for coaches could rival any camp in the country. Kolat, Scott,Koscheck,Abe. Headlee has connections.
