Congrats to Jim Akerly of Quest - you have done this area a great service! Canon-Quest, Charla-Quest, etc. Quest: the common denominator of Local Powerade Finalist.

Jim "Wrestling Wizard of Oz" Akerly": The man behind the coaching curtain. All area HS Coaches should be thanking you.

160–Travis McKillop (B) dec. Cody Wiercioch (Charl) 4-3 - NICE! Congrats Travis!!!!!!

What happen to Cody "Cary Kolat" Wiercioch? And no after match comments? Paper said "...refused to comment". What is up with that ... he is a state champion.

152–Chance Marsteller is the real "Cary Kolat" remake. Looks like him, wrestles like him, is trained by him. Chance is the real, real deal. Rated Best Freshman Wrestler in the Nation. Look it up.

Would love to see those two in the same weight class next year in Powerade.

Travis and Cody will have to wrestle each other atleast two more times in the future. The match can go either way, they are both great wrestlers.

Jim Akerly is a good coach and was a fantastic wrestler. However, I think the talent in the area makes quest not the other way around. Give the local kids and their coaches and parents the just dues they all deserve.

Cody Wiercioch needs to wrestle 152. He is only a sophmore and does not have his manly muscles yet. He is as fast as grease lightning but, sometimes that don't work at the higher weight classes. Would love to see Marsteller and Weircioch wrestle. Please make this happen soon. Travis Mckillop I believe is a senior and wrestling his true weight at 160. He has his man muscles and may use those muscles to win himself a state championship. Kudos to Travis. I believe he leads the series 2-1 now.

You are incorrect,Travis does not lead the series 2-1 it is tied 2-2. Get your facts straight before you post erroneous information. We will have to wait and see what the future holds for these two wrestlers since they will have to wrestle each other a couple of more times in the near future. As I said before the match can go either way, the sophomore can hold his own against the senior!

I give all Parents credit.

But,it is not like the old days where your HS Coach helps you or provides a mat room year round to work on moves. You never see them out side the season. If you track these elite wrestler's entire mat room time at quest vs. HS, JR High, Youth program - Quest hours far out measure School Program hours.

Again, Congrats to Jim and his program.

And, I agree, the parents should be given all the credit in the world.

Wow, Canon-Quest.Ya know that kinda pisses me off. I`d like to think the program gets along fine without your almighty Quest.I wrestled for Canon-Mac,and also i`m good friends with a few of the coaches in the Program. Guess they had nothin to do with are resurgence to the top huh? Is it great that the kids have somewhere to work out year round? Of course, but i think your disrespecting a program thats been at or near the pinnacle of wrestling for a very long time in this state.

Last Post on Topic (resurgence?):

Sorry, the program is not the same as the past nether is the total talent of wrestling as a sport. That is right - They had nothing to do with the resurgence of the sport. Nothing.

Today, there are pockets of greatness in local wrestlers that you can trace back to Quest. Sorry, it is true. You can also thank the "Wrestling Dads" who had great leadership qualities who took interest in other kids besides their own - Like Dobin @ CM or Valcano @ CH. Thank the kids youth coaches like Jimmy Amon (sp?) who all the kids (in the 12th to 9th grade now) looked forward to seeing every night. He kept them enjoying the sport early. Thank CM Jr High coach, Slack, for his caring focus on all the kids. Both kept youth wrestlers interested in wrestling a long period of time.

Thank people like these examples above for the total greatness of the current TEAMS. But, thank Quest for the Elite Wrestlers because they went to Quest year round for 10 plus years - every night. That is the what is behind area's current success.

Everybody needs to ride and enjoy this snapshoot of a moment in local wrestling because the rolling movie has a bad ending.

There is a bad storm brewing in the Jr Highs that these "Great Coaches that are friends of yours" need to address. 6 total wrestlers in the Charters Houston JR Program, 16 in Canon Mac JR Program - the two best High School teams in the area right now. No upper weight class interest in most current Youth Programs & Jr Highs in Washington County. Basketball & Hockey are on the rise for Winter Sports in Youth programs. CCNS headcount is down 20%. Someone can quickly write a response to bash these two sports but that does not fix the low numbers in the programs.

There will not be any long term stategy on fixing this from the HS coaches. That is because there has never been a long term stategy. It's ride the given/handed success until the 9th graders are seniors and then retire. Watch it will happen.

Trinity is a good exampe of a program trying to rebuild a program within the school system. But it seems to be a huge struggle to fix because of the variety of different winter sports available for youths now.

How can you wrestle the youth back to this sport and keep them interested over a long period of time? This is the real question "Coaches" need to be focused on. But there has never been a focus on the feeder program at least for 10 to 12 years at least. Never saw a HS Coach in a JR or Youth Mat room - not one time.

Ya know pal there is life besides wrestling. Maybe get one? And you just pinpointed what most know anyway. Anybody can take praise to coaching the elite. Whats so unique about what he`s doing. Take the kids that are midlevel wrestlers and coach them up. Not just ride the coattales of (THE ELITE)as you put it. And not everybody has the means to put their kids in quest.

I agree with the previous poster. You telling me that if joe shmo has the only wrestling room in the area to attend that he wouldn't be as successful. The talent makes quest not the other way around. Now I agree that he provides a year round service that the schools can't provide. What this is going to do is phase out wrestling programs in the near future and turn this sport into karate. What I mean by this is that the parents are going to have to pay for their children to wrestle. This in the long run will eventually deplete the talant and actually hurt the area as a whole.

I don't care if Cody can hold his own against the senior. I want to see what he can do against the freshman. Kolat's creation vs. The Phenom. Would make great Headlines and Entertainment. Mckillop v Weircioch does nothing for me.

Are you serious? Mckillop and Wierchoch could very well be one of if not the best rivalry seen in a long time around here. You and the Quest guy with the mancrush need to appreciate the sport instead of pipedreaming. Then again maybe you get your wish and get Marstellar vs Wierchoch at POWERADE 2011. Until then though enjoy what you have nooch
