Thanks guys. Did Ashnault and Dance wrestle 126? If, why did he dodge Colt? Did they think they could win the dual? What weight did the dual start at? It looks like there was a bunch of movement. Macri and Wert would have been a good one. That stinks to go that far to blow a few teams out and miss out on the tough ones.

To break down the reason why there was a blow out in the finals:

Number 1. Canon McMillan won the toss choosing even

Number 2. This forced Christiansburg to send out JR Wert at 113. We then had the option down 3 - 0 in the dual to forfeit a toss up match and get a sure victory at the next weight 120 with Dalton Macri which occurred in the manner of a major. If we had not made this move and happened to lose Macri-Wert we then would be down 6 - 0 heading to Hritsko-Dulaney. If he happens to get pinned now down 12 - 0. Even if Macri wins and Hristko gets pinned 9 - 3 instead of 9 - 4.

Number 3. Being the way it happened, 9 - 4 heading into 126. Christiansburg being coached by Weber a Iowa National Champ gets nervous and makes the decision to go for the "for sure" pin and move Dance up to 132 and go with his chances with Lump against Shorts which ended in a fall. 9 - 10. Our guy Krenzelak does not give up the fall a win for us and morale killer for them gets majored against number 2 kid in the country. score 13 - 10.

Number 4. Sticking with their move because of no other choice at this point. Christiansburg perhaps with a little extra pressure now has 132 Smith against Sammy Minor at 138 which ends in defeat something I am sure they thought would not happen. Score 13 - 13.

Number 5. Back to Back pins by the "Chishko Kid" and "Double D" puts them down 13 - 25.

Number 6. Pihoiu saves a point 18 - 25.

Number 7. Miles goes out against Wiercioch instead of not trying to give up bonus points actually trying to pull off miracle win and gets majored. 18 - 29.

Number 8. Now totally demoralized and with no real hope Christiansburg gives up two more decisions a pin and a forfeit to cap off a demolishing of a very good team. Final Score 18 - 47.

Not that many lay people out there understand and not many coaches for that matter understand the complexity of todays dual meet strategy's and the combinations therein. Having to draw for what weight you start at, flipping for choice etc etc. But to set the record straight, our high school coaches have a proven track record of flawlessly coming up with perfect strategy's to win matches time and time again. Just look back to WPIAL team championship rounds 2 , 3 and 4 two years ago, Nazareth win in first round of PIAA a year ago etc etc.

To go back to the match in discussion: Lets say we send Macri out and he gets beat . team score 6 - 0. Say Hritsko gets pinned somehow 12 - 0. Say they decide to send Dance out on Shorts and he somehow gets beat. 15 - 0. Say Smith beats Malachi 18 - 0. Even if Sammy wins 18 - 3. the two pins 18 - 15. their tech 23 - 15. Miles goes out not to give up bonus. 23 - 18. Without demoralization of their team say somehow their 182 and 220 win. 29 - 24 with the pin of Binotto's. Now they send their Heavyweight out to just not get pinned say he does not get pinned we can lose 29 - 27. Very hypothetically but great coaches figure out how the other team can win and avoid that at all costs while good coaches figure out ways to win and stick with that and the rest of the coaches either are not smart do not care or lack enough experience in these matters.

8:33 This could not have been written by a coach of CM. Who do they think they are treating these young boys as if they were pawns on chess board ... Bobby Fisher himself? Good god! This is sick! I can't believe this was actually written on this board. If so and so gets pinned, teched, beat, etc. Such high hopes for the locals I see. I think the team won because of their years of experience and mat presence. The fine young men on the MAT won the tournament. They are the ones who went in the circle that day. They deserve better than these comments.

Can't we all just get a blue ribbon? Do they have to keep score? If somebody gets a bloody nose, the other person should say they are sorry. What is Strategy? Isn't that some fancy word from an old Rocky movie. Why are all the people in the stands behind me yelling "Twoooo, Twwwooo"! What do they want? Help me, I am so confused!

Signed Coach of other Teams (in 8:33's eyes). Give us a little more credit than you give. We understand strategy just fine. It's not rocket science at NASA.

OK maybe not Wednesday because it is senior night but how about the first match of the WPIAL Team sections? Let's put it to a vote! This team ROCKS!

Thanks Slak I raised the question to begin with. Looking at box scores doesn't give you all you need to know about the match. Your kid must have wrestled a good match, Dance is a stud. I think he has beaten Gulibon before. Seeing that CM got a forfeit at HVY and not knowing who had the draw and where the match started and so many pins leads to a lot of speculation. Thanks again for the blow by blow. I also love the "Pawns on a Chessboard" post, that's a classic.

Just for the record: I gave the real situation that occurred and then threw out one worse case scenario situation in which we could have lost. There are mathematically at least 112 scenarios just with the starters that I could throw out there. And to all the young men I dedicated my last 15 years of my life to, I do not ever expect the worst for them but as a coach and speaking for the rest of the coaches to the best of my ability ,we will always strive to put them all in the best situation for success in duals as a team and prepare them for success as individuals in their post season. Many of these young men are going to leave their high school careers with scholarships a constant goal of ours. The little fellow in the singlet is just turned 4 Zach in which I had to pleasure to coach through his first practice last Thursday he is a natural and I hope that he does coach one day! If persons understood the joy our high schoolers felt Saturday night you would understand why the coaches think the way they do wanting them to experience what we have experienced as athletes and now as coaches.

Well said Brian, you my friend have class. No wonder CM has the success they have. With people like you and the rest of the CM coaches I'm impressed . Sometimes you have the horses and still don't succeed. It proves you have to have leadership and guidance for the kids too. Obviously CM has it and it starts in the little guy program.Very impressed with the CM program .

I would have to say a good percentage of you people on this site never experienced what the sport of wrestling is all about, have experienced a 2-3 hrs of practice in a room that is so hot you can lose weight by just sitting there, and most important the last 1/2-45mins. of conditioning that you can't wait to hear the coaches whistle. Then it's you anonymous people that can't put your name to your comment. Then have the nerve to say your a former wrestler for cm or any other school I HIGHLY DOUBT IT because if so you would back these kids 100%.

I will agree with with the last guy 12:21 he is absolutly correct I have been a part of trinity wrestling program all my life as a wrestler and now a parent of a 6yr old this sport is for people that are willing to make sacrafices for themselves and also for the team if your not willing then the sport is not for you.I will also say that all the negative things being said about canon mac they are our local program that is doing well due to other schools that can't even fill all weight classes. Maybe you ought to support cm and go see some very talented kids that wrestle for them. Yes they got some key transfers but still they are the best we have in our wpial, and the state is yet to be known but i know we won't be rooting against them we will be cheering for them and our other local schools.

Sorry. I do not see world class coaching at CM. The term "Great" is always associated will "World Class". I would say good at recruiting transfers. Average at Coaching. Somebody is really tooting their on horn pretty high in the air. Let's face it, if Quest was down the road from Ringold, they would be the powerhouse of the area. Canon Mac would have a good team but not a nationally ranked team.

To you 5:42, McGuire will not stall! 6 points hahaha ur funny not a chance! As for 10:16, STALLING every match go and watch! As for 9:41 Jealous? Who am I to give credit to? The wrestler deserves the credit. The parent deserves the credit. Have you ever went to a match? If so do you watch Mary/Haynes when the kids are wrestling? Next time you are there please watch the facial expressions when someone other than the studs wrestling. For example Hristko, Huchin, Martin, LaFrance, to name a few. Then my friend tell me I dont know nothing! Here is one more example of me not knowing anything, Zack Thomas Powerade! He took down the 3rd seeded kid put him on his back went up 5-0 after 1. 2nd period that kid took down and reversed him and almost turned him 3 different times 5-2 after 2. Mary/Haynes tell him to go down he gets pinned! O yes lets give them credit! Terrible coaching! O yeah to top it off Zack was told by someone on the coaching staff he had no heart! That is a fact ask him! As for vern holleys post I support the kids you got that right.

I will not be able to attend tonight's match but wanted to extent my congratulations a few of the wrestlers I had the pleasure to watch over the last 10 to 11 years.

Congrats to Cody K, Shorts, Cody R, DD, Zack T, Binotto, Mark D, Lenex. And another seniors I might have forgotten on the list. Besides Cat and Chris D of last year, this will be the first year of the next four we will say goodbye to a great group of kids at CM who for whatever reason in today's world stuck with the sport of wrestling. From the smallest kid to the largest - they stuck together and kept with the sport and all the hard work has started to play off. Good luck with what ever you decide to do in life. Enjoyed watching each and ever one of you over the years.
