Big Macs in team title sweep
Canon-McMillan easily outdistanced the competition to capture its second consecutive team title at the PIAA Class AAA Wrestling Championships Saturday night at the Giant Center in Hershey. The Bigs won the PIAA Team Tournament last month on the same Giant Center floor.
The Big Macs finished with 102 points and Central Dauphin was second with 67. The only other team to sweep the team events in the state tournaments was Connellsville, which accomplished the feat in 2005.
Canon-mcMillan also set the WPIAL record for most medal winners in this tournament with eight and have a string of 14 straight over the last two seasons. Northampton has the state record of 10 in 2004.
Chris Mary, Canon-McMillan's head coach, was named the PIAA Class AAA Coach of the Year and his assistant, Glenn Haynes, will be honored May 20 as PIAA Assistant Coach of the Year.
