Wash. County wrapup
It's only the second year of existence but the Washington County Wrestling Tournament is becoming a hit with the fans. Beth-Center's Middle School had large crowds for the two-day tournament and they are very good at organizing the event. I did hear some grumblings about how small and out of the way B-C is but I like the atmosphere. It seems there are always people lining the mats and the seats are filled. That makes the atmosphere better than holding it a larger facility, where it can make just as many people seem like a lot less.
Fort Cherry really had a good tournament, winning three titles. The Rangers have surprised a lot of people this season.
I wouldn't believe any stories about the severity of the injuries to Trinity's Grant Lowther and Todd Martinek and Canon-McMillan's Mike Eberly. Lowther and Martinek were held out as a precaution and Eberly's knee problem is not believed to be serious. With Trinity wrestling at Canon-Mac Wednesday, I am sure the rumor mill will have those three wrestlers close to death this week.
Every year, I expect great things from Avella's Codie Noga. Things keep getting in his way. Last year, he was sick at the end of the season and medication sapped his strength. If he's healthy this year, I am still optimistic. I feel that way about Grady Paxton of Chartiers-Houston. One season of health seems too much to ask for him.
I don't understand a wrestler throwing headgear at the end of the bout because he's angry that he lost. I've seen it happen a few times this season and I am guessing it goes on more than usual. Think about this: If you have the strength to whip your headgear across the gym after a bout, you are not using enough of your energy in your bouts.

Is there still the idea of bringing in the Greene County schools? Also is it going to move around to others schools as was mentioned when first presented? I do like the tournament and hope it contiues to grow..as hopefully more athletes will come out to wrestle when there is a close knit tournament like this.
The venue was a joke. Hold the t'ment in a real gym. At a real high school.
Beth Center Middle School may not have the "High Quality" facilities that you obviously must be accustomed with but the fact is Beth Center ran an outstanding tournament the last two years. You obviously have a lot of class to come on here and refer to Beth Center as a joke. I would like to see the tournament moved to a bigger venue as well. Mainly so that they wouldn't have to split the kids up on the first day. But other than that I don't think anyone who attended would have anything negative to say about the event, especially to the point of referring to Beth Center and its facilities as a joke. Washingtown County is fortunate to have schools of all sizes and I personally love attending events at all of them. When I go to Canon Mac I am in absolute awe of the facilities that their students have access to, but at the same time I also like going to Bentworth and seeing how their organization and community come together and do the best they can with less. Our school is made up of a lot of very proud people. Many of whom worked their tails off to make this event a success, and to come on here and try to belittle our facilities and our school is a slap in the face to everyone of them.
Let me also say that the event is up for any school to host but there has not been much interest. Trinity has the Elite Duals and, normally, a postseason event. C-M has Powerade and a post season event. Chartiers-Houston has its own tournament but lacks the two-gym setup. Burgettstown has its own tournament the following week and Wash High lacks the locker room space and mat space needed.
Also, it takes an all-day effort to work the event and probably four times that much to organize. It is no easy job. B-C does a great job.
Agreed Joe, I didn't realize nobody wanted this tournament.
However Beth Center did pretty well with the 100/0 drawing they had...Twice...How do you have a 50/50 and not give away the money? That is pretty crooked at well.
Next time, don't buy a ticket.
